Pleased to see you posting, vitty - I believe you've been questioned on your activities.

Welcome back Vitty.

Are you just allowed to advertise what's in this weeks paper by your editor, rather than give your comment, or ask for feed back?

vitty 04-11-2005 11:34

Re: In this Friday's Accrington Observer (4 November)

Yes, I am asking for feedback.

Any views you have on the paper and our stories would be gratefully received (either on her or with a letter to the editor).

We are always looking to do follow-up stories and find out what our readers want.

Re: In this Friday's Accrington Observer (4 November)

I think a great story would be that one of our elected councillors has posted on here, that he's been scilenced from airing his views on Accrington Web.:)

Re: In this Friday's Accrington Observer (4 November)

Not sure whether Graham would want any more fuss about that, Garinda!

garinda 04-11-2005 11:42

Re: In this Friday's Accrington Observer (4 November)

Perhaps not.

Pity he hasn't got an ex-spouse, who could then use the letters page to attack this injustice.;)

Re: In this Friday's Accrington Observer (4 November)

Well, girl in the box is a lady I have had the pleasure of working with. Heidi, a kind, generous, bubbly extrovert .. good luck kid ... sure you will win. You can vote for her if you read the Observer.

I thought changing the intro (for at least a week) was the best way of symbolising I listened to all your opinions about the column.

I hope you found it an improvement.

Also, our woman in the box won! Read how she celebrated and what goodies she gets to keep next Friday :)

Re: In this Friday's Accrington Observer (4 November)

Errmm, pardon me for being pedantic but, re: this week's "Mr Angry" Column, it really makes my blood boil when journalists, who you might suppose would know better, cannot get their terms right. An "Antidote" is something that is taken to counteract a poison and would be entirely useless against a viral infection. However I agree with the point about people cashing in on the misery of others. In an ideal world treatment would be free at the point of need. Hmmmm? Now where have I heard that before?

I will have to make an effort to remember to pick a copy up when I'm over.

I think i will have to settle for mine being posted up there aint enough in the online version. :(

I agree. I didn't use the term in the first place. It got changed.

Margaret Pilkington 06-11-2005 17:53

Re: In this Friday's Accrington Observer (4 November)

Thank you Vitty.... now let's see if you can get the column given to the pupils for them to bring up issues that interest them. I think it would be a good move and would foster some interest in the younger readers - after all they are the future of the prosperity of the paper....and of the area.

Re: In this Friday's Accrington Observer (4 November)

It's not a bad idea, but you have to consider the practalities.

For a regular column written by an outside/unpaid reporter, you need to have:

someone who can write, and
someone who can writer regularly and be depended on to send it in

...which is much less readily available than it seems.

Re: In this Friday's Accrington Observer (4 November)

I don't suppose I would be allowed to nominate myself would I? If Margot Grimshaw can do it I am damn sure I could make a better fist of it than her!

They had someone who could do that................once upon a time!

Babette I'd like to second you.
You'd be wonderful.
Anything Margot could do with her fist I'm sure you could do better.
