Aye true, the difference is that great minds generally have the capacity to act, whilst fools bleat with the flock.:)

This "blue sky thinking" malarky is all very well but, where is the money? As others have observed we have seen so many false dawns that motivating people to enthuse about yet another one is going to be an uphill struggle to say the least.

I was thinking about this at work today. We all know HBC are about as useful and efficient as a chocolate fireguard when it comes to securing government handouts. Otherwise Hyndburn would be the bustling hub of the county instead of the embarassment that it now is.

Why can't we gather together and decide what needs to be done and then apply for the funding ourselves and only involve HBC when it is absolutely necessary?

It doesn't cost much to set up a limited company and I think "The People of Hyndburn Limited" has a certain ring to it. We could sell shares at a pound a go to fund the application process.

I don't mind "blue sky thinking", if that is what they wish to rebrand creative or lateral thinking; most of us are capable of some of that, some of the time. I just do not see that simply because it comes from an ex-fourth rate TV celebrity who once ran a dodgy disco, we should take any notice of it

Talking about rebranding, though, who remembers when the site of the Blackburn Road/Market Street junction at Church was simply refered to as "Church Commercial". That was the stop you asked the conductor for when on the bus from Blackburn or Accy; Everyone knew where it was..simple.

Next time you're on a bus, though, going from Blackburn to Church, have a look at your ticket. Blackburn Transport now designates the stop as "Church Traffic Lights". Wow! There must be something special about Church Traffic Lights for this to happen...does anyone know? Were they possibly the first traffic lights in the country? Maybe there were traffic lights on the canal.

Not to be outdone, however, is Hyndburn Borough Council (Who else :) ?).And what do they call the site? Why,to them it is the rather grandiose "Church Gateway". Please don't ask where the the hell they get that from....I don't know. Maybe Britcliffe has visions of a Brandenburg Gate being erected on the spot, with a ceremonial march through every couple of weeks.... or maybe an Arc D' Trioumph (who knows - the original might be going cheap next week if the Frogs succeed in firebombing it).

Can somone please explain to me what all this is supposed to mean? Three different names for the same place....I'm confused.

For those of you who may be interested this link will open the door to many PDF's published by HBC with regard to the redevelopment of West Accrington.

http://www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk/hmr/

There are lots of plans and "visions" and "key stakeholders" and "key partnerships", some really dreadful english and some pretty pictures.

The cynic in me me says that this is all there ever will be; we will have to wait and see.

So when will it be fixed or is the budget to tight for that to be fixed?

Fixed? Knowing HBC they'd probably tarmac it!

Have just been looking at the Elevate East Lancashire web site, very interesting reading......plans for the old warehouse and commercial pub at Church feature on there. Note the bit about the clearance of 200 terraced houses, and the development of "29 new homes to rent" also the funding for hyndburn against the funding for blackburn with darwen

Hmmmm. Blackburn with Darwen, Pendle and Burnley all getting a larger slice of the cake than poor old Hyndburn. Sounds about right, that.

It is things like this that begin to make you paranoid; what have we done that is so awful that we always seem to end up with the shi**y end of every stick?

What I don’t get is why are people always be crying how bad it is and yet the people who dwell in this negativity never seem to be heard expressing their fears or opinions in the local press, everyone who lives over there has a right to be heard. You have a voice, why aren’t you using it…. Councillor Britclit will read the comments of this site and wee himself laughing, “Oh Dear oh dear, at it again calling we fit to burn. Now’t they can do but chit chat……

That’s not a personal attack, but rather a plea for someone to stand up and do something more positive. :o :o
