ATM fees 'to reach £250m in 2006'
Are you charged to draw your own cash from "the hole in the wall" looks like there is a lot of money being made out of us again

Re: ATM fees 'to reach £250m in 2006'
I'm probably going to go against the grain here but I have no objection to them making money from some of the ATM machines. I WILL object if the banks and building societies start charging from bank premises but I don't object to a charge when they're in shops or garages. The thing is that shops have to give up floor space which means that they lose sales, someone has to maintain them and make sure they're full. Plus they need security to ensure that no one can get into them. It's just enterprise - if you don't want to pay to withdraw your money go to the bank's hole in the wall, don't wait until you're in a shop to do it.

I have to say that I've also never used one in a shop or garage because of the charges. If I have no money on me, I'll use chip and pin rather than withdraw cash in a shop. I use the Nationwide card in ATM's abroad because they don't charge you for the transactions.

Accept your point gayle, but how many people do you see waiting to use the machines in Asda or any other large supermarket, something I can't understand, Adsa in accrington is not that far from the banks. You can use your debit card to pay at the till in the store, plus they will ask if you want any cash back. So why the need to use the ATM's and risk being charged for withdrawing your own money.

Re: ATM fees 'to reach £250m in 2006'
I occasionally do use the one in Ossy Mills and occasionally use the one in the garage off the main traffic lights at Church. But I know that they charge so wherever possible I pop to Lloyds TSB in Ossy first to get my cash then go to fill up with petrol or buy whatever it is I want. If I have to pay the charge because I'm too late or too lazy to go to the bank then I kind of think it's my fault so it doesn't particularly bother me.
Plus, if they do increase the charge to £2.50 then I will probably make more of an effort to get to the bank first. |

Re: ATM fees 'to reach £250m in 2006'
I will not use an ATM that charges me for accessing my own money.
I suppose we have to be thankful that the banks do not charge more for their services. I have spent quite some time in Oz and was horrified to hear that the banks charge for the use of ATMs.....well, most banks allow you something like 10 transactions per month.....after that you are charged. If I lived out there permanently I would store my money in my sock (and walk a bit funny). See, I told you I was in training to be a Scottish Jew! (with sincere apologies to both of those) |
Re: ATM fees 'to reach £250m in 2006'
at the abbey they charge £3.00 to draw cash over the counter and their excuse is that you shuld use the cash machine
well untill cash machines start giving out pound coins and 5 pound notes peopel will need to use the counter occasionaly as for cash machines that charge a pound its all well saying that its ok to charge because the machine takes up floor space but dont forget the only reason why they are there is to provide the customer with acess to their money to spend in their shops so in a way they pay for themsleves |

Re: ATM fees 'to reach £250m in 2006'
Take your point Chav but still reckon you could always walk to the bank if you wanted to save the money so you can't blame businesses for charging for floor space.

Re: ATM fees 'to reach £250m in 2006'
if they didnt charge for it they would only stick a few pence onto the price of a tin of beans or somthing anyway
either way they will get their money out of you lol |
Re: ATM fees 'to reach £250m in 2006'
I avoid the pay as you go machines like a plague. My money so I have to "retreive" it from a cash machine. Margaret forgive you for the comment.

Re: ATM fees 'to reach £250m in 2006'
Interesting comments, as has been said it's our money so why pay to draw it from where ever, the stores, shops that have the cash machines in, why are they there............to make the store owners a bit more profit, or to provide a service so you can draw cash to spend in their stores/ shops.
From chav1's comment the Abbey charge £3 to draw money over their counter.........................no way find another bank. |
