Will I get an early Christmas present from BT?
Most of you will have seen the offer from BT for wireless broadband, I already have BT broadband but the idea of going wireless is of great interest to me.
I looked on their web site and not only wireless for the same price but £150 off a selected laptop, now that is an offer I was very tempted by, however disappointment was just around the corner:- New Accounts Only! Oh! to be let down after being given such High hopes, not to be put off I sent them the following email:- Dear Sir, I noted with interest the advert for wireless Broadband on t.v. yesterday, I then had a look at your site and was impressed with your offer of £150 off a selected laptop, however I was very dissapointed to find that this offer is open only to new users. Can I ask if in the near future you will be expanding this offer to those of us that intend to remain loyal to your service or perhaps your intention is to give me a surprise christmas present of a FREE laptop because I am and wish to remain a loyal customer, Wishing you all the best for the coming season and will await the arrival of my postman with baited breathe. Should I get up early every morning to greet my local postie or should I in the words of the wise, |

This was on the radio the other morning. Apparently it's entirely legal.
Message- Buyer beware.:( |

I think it was Jerremy Clarkeson that did an advert for BT (phones), claiming that they look after existing customers, doesn't apply to broadband though does it? http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_8_12v.gif |
Re: Will I get an early Christmas present from BT?
I think for donkey's years, most major companies BT, British Gas, Banks etc have got away with shoddy service with no perks for existing customers. They think that once you are a customer you'll not be bothered with the hassle of moving to someone else. Unfortunately that is not the case now. It's dead easy to move to different suppliers of services, as BT and British Gas have both found out in my case. I would consider going back to BT but after 3 letters to try and entice me back, all of which got my name wrong, they can kiss my bum.....:D

Re: Will I get an early Christmas present from BT?
Why not go somewhere else for a month then back to bt as a new customer, or is there small print to stop that?
It happens in the USA a lot with Satellite tv, 2 main providers and free for new customers, done the switch off one, join, then back for a freebie and also switched off (told them I was moving) changed the accout to my wifes name as a new customer. |
Re: Will I get an early Christmas present from BT?
I got a nice email from BT the other day to tell me all about the "exciting" new features they have added to my account at no extra cost. Spam guard anti-virus guard, anti-phishing guard. I cannot describe how excited I am to be the lucky recipient of this example of BT's largesse and consideration for little me, "multiple orgasms" doesn't even come close!
What sort of world do these people live in, where the addition of a spam guard can be described as an "exciting" development???? Clearly, they do not get out nearly enough. What would be exciting is if my Modem didn't keep dropping the line whenever it suited it and if BT bumped up the bl**dy speed and dropped the bl**dy price! |

Special offers
I am with a cable company called Telewest - you may have heard of them I think they some sites up your way . They had one of these special offers going and when I enquired they said it was for new customers only so I complained and threatened to cancel my business with them - then they had a re-think and decided that existing customers could also have the benefits. I also got a six months goodwill reduction of £5 on my telephone bill when I said I was going to transfer to One-tel. Mayb e I was lucky and perhaps it was the way I spoke to them I always said how good they were and would like to stay with them if possible.

Re: Will I get an early Christmas present from BT?
Surprise, Surprise, BT did give me something yesterday, a bloody big headache!
When I had visitied their site I was informed that there was an update for the Bt Broadband help program. Essential that all users take advantage for the sake of their peace of mind! Like a lamb to the slaughter I clicked up date (DOH!) Even on broadband their update took several minutes to download, it then took about three re-starts to actually install. All went well after this until after I switched my P.C. off! When I switched it on again and it was doing a 'cold' start I got an error essential .dll missing, "oh, dear", then the bt logo appeared and told me it was going to finish installing BT broadband, "Oh dear, Oh dear", then it told me it couldn't find an associated link to continue the installation, "don't panic Less, it will only be minor". O.K. uninstall Bt Broadband and install from disk, 'Former installation detected uninstalling', good. install, disconnect modem re-connect modem, re-boot 'CRASH'! START OVER. uninstall Bt Broadband and install from disk, 'Former installation detected uninstalling', good. install, disconnect modem re-connect modem, re-boot 'CRASH'! Sod it! it's magically gone from 7.30 at night to 11.45 I'm going to bed. Up early optimistic, went through routine got as far as modem configured, 'INSTALLATION FAILED AS PROG DETECTED OLD HELP FILE'. "No you haven't that's the super new help file I downloaded yesterday, are you telling me this is my problem?" On to BT after several dull robotic voices I speak to a human sorry wrong department ring...... Rang..... it's a recording telling me which exchanges are off-line for maintenance, (not much help there). ring Sales speak eventually to human, Sorry sir you want BT Broadband helpline, (I bite my tongue and then ask calmly if perhaps he has their number, I await an 0891 number), "yes sir 0845......" (I must be on the right track it's the first number that's not free!). I ring, I get an asian voice, Yes I think, this is the help line I can hardly tell a word he is saying! I explain slowly and as calmly as I can. He replies, "Yes we get alot of people having that problem after they download that up date", (Less, get yourself down from that wall and talk to the nice Western Oriental Gentleman!) He then spends twenty to thirty minutes of my money explaining how I can get back to a working broadband. He actually knew what he was talking about it connected first time thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Is there a moral to this? I have been using BT broadband more or less without a hitch for the past year, perhaps the most obvious one is:- Don't fix what isn't broken, especially from BT! |
Re: Will I get an early Christmas present from BT?

Re: Will I get an early Christmas present from BT?
One very useful bit of kit given away free by BT is the “BT modem protection software.” This enables you to select which phone number your computer uses to dial up with and thus prevents anyone scumbag trying to re-direct your Internet connection via a premium number in Hawaii or somewhere.
