The Calder Vomitorium - a sick joke?

I suppose it is now to late to stop the development of this town centre mega-bar, puke palace and bun fight emporium, otherwise known as the Barracuda/Smith & Jones bar in the 'owd bed shop, but is it not to late to do something about the intended name? Or should we do nothing?

I read in the weekend's Observer that the management of this erstwhile chain, have, upon opening the suggestion box, opted upon the name of The Calder for their new establishment.

This, apparently, is in order to facilitate and cement its local identity. However, me thinks that someone is taking the proverbial p*ss. Whether the River Calder actually passes through Hyndburn or not, does not matter; the main river is the Hyndburn/Stink, and even here there is some debate as to where the river begins. The Calder, is of course, associated with the Borough of Burnley and in the past has had a pollution problem far in excess of our own dear little river. So would you drink in the Calder? It looks to me like someone has already gone some way to sabotage the bottom line of Barracuda's Accy cost centre.

In a similar vein. I came across an advert for a house for sale at a place called "Shallow Valley Terrace" in last weeks Observer. Never heard of it? Neither have I...but it turns out to be in Church. You've probably guessed now...it's on the Legoland estate, by the traffic lights. Who dreamt this one up, I don't know, but I'm sure there's more of these crazy names out there.

As far as I am aware it clips Altham. As for a name it would have to be something sinnonimus with Accy apart from Stanley. So thinking caps are required in force.

It actually never enters the borough, its course forms part of the North-northwestern boundary of the borough between Altham and Whalley Banks. I agree with 'T', someone is taking the mick.

All will be welcomed in The Calder and Stones.

Perhaps you could get some really big stones and have weight lifting competitions. Then you could get a harness attached to one of the buses and have people attempt to drag it along Blackburn Road, It would at least be a damn sight faster than the usual bus service, and think of the tourist quids that you might attract - not to mention the Beef!

Where is Gayle with her application forms...not gone with the wind I hope?
