Snow - will it or won't it?

Well they were talking snow on the radio this morning, they say it could be on Thursday or Friday, what do you think.

Its bad enough having to defrost the car every morning , never mind slipping and sliding everywhere.

Give me the wind and rain anyday.

Met.check said it is supposed to snow lightly on Thursday and Friday!!!

Whether it will happen or not is another question

Acrylic-bob 22-11-2005 03:02

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?

The Met Office now have a severe weather warning out for the whole country covering Thursday Friday and Saturday.

Snow, Hail, Sleet and Strong Northerly Winds. Windchill - minus 10C:eek:

Happily, because this is coming in from the North we should be spared the worst here in our cosy little bit of East Lancs, the lovely Pennines will shelter us from the worst of it.

Debbie J 22-11-2005 04:49

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?

I'd much rather have snow than frost, as it's not as slippy. Though I'm not keen on snow when it turns to slush. My 7year old loves both, it took us an extra 10 minutes to walk to school yesterday 'cos he was purposely sliding all the way. He's not daft though he wouldn't let go of my hand, I'm sure it grew a couple of inches with all the dragging on it.:)

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?

So the met say possible snow and a possible -10 sounds like a fun weekend ahead. Sledge is ready but the chance of it lying here are pretty slim. :(

Acrylic-bob 22-11-2005 17:27

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?

According to Metcheck.com, the Snow will arrive in Lancashire at around 3pm on Thursday afternoon and stay with us till around midnight. The actual window of opportunity is from 9am Thursday to 3pm Friday, but it is the 3pm to Midnight slot that is forecast with 100% probability. Below 200Metres it should fall as sleet.
To put that into some sort of perspective; The Griffin at Huncoat stands at a couple of metres short of 200 and the coppice is around the 245Metre mark. So... Wet, Windy, Slushy and pretty damn cold! I wouldn't get the bobsleigh out just yet, unless you live at Green Haworth or the Isle of Skye. But it might be a good idea to make sure that you have got plenty of antifreeze for the car. It will be a pretty nasty ride home from work on Thursday.

I don't want snow until Christmas. The thought of bad weather stopping our trip to Ossy on 22 December is terrifying - I don't mind once we get there, it can snow the whole country in for all I care, but PLEASE hold off until after 22 December!

A-B wind from north/nor-west will blow straight into our neck of the woods and the beloved pennines will whip round and make for drifting snow and freezing conditions...................................i dont want snow this weekend as I'm on NIGHTS!!!!!!!!!

I'm hoping that we get some. I’ve just winterised my walking kit so I’m hope for a dump in the lakes. There’s a chance of a little mid week and a promise of a fall on Sunday afternoon.

Just looked out of the office window - AAARRGH! - horizontal sleet, absolutely foul.

Why can't human beings hibernate? - just wake up for Christmas, then off again until March.

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?

Same this side of town. We should'nt be getting this before Accy, surely? Or has the Met Office cocked up again?

SPUGGIE J 24-11-2005 15:14

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?

Well clear and sunny for the most part in my area. It made a very wimpish effort to snow then gave up. North of Aberdeen there are plaes that are snowed in so sleat dont sound to bad. As for the Met office the day they get it right will be the day their jobs are on the line.

:) It was you whipping us all into a frenzy with news of the worst winter since 1963, that you posted from your fancy metrological site, that started it all.

I have a pantry full of those all in English breakfasts, that come in tins of beans, thanks to you.

If it doesn't snow by May I'll invite you round for supper, just don't light up after eating or we'd both die when the gas was ignited.

How did you know that baked beans were my favorite vegetable? How very intuitive of you...not to say spooky.

As for the rest, the coldest winter for 10 or more years is still on the cards. Don't go putting away those winter woollies just yet.

I can't start a game of posting ping-pong with you because I've just put my hair in rags for tonights meet at the Stag, and still can't decide what I should be, hippie chic or gingham preppy.

It is quite heavy snow up here at the moment, and you cant tell where the road starts and the pavement ends. Any more of this and I will be digging a snow tunnel up to tinks house for a snow ball fight!!

I got some fotos yesterday too, but have no idea how to get them from the camera on to the computer. Doh!

Yesterday was the first time I have ever driven in the snow, was fairly interesting attempting to get of my road. Earlier, I had watched someone completly mess up driving around the corner and she'd gone up the pavement on the opposite corner. It took 3 of them to put her in the direction she actually wanted , then she just abandoned her car at some strange angle directly behind my car!

i have just seen the most amazing thing!!!!! a lady came down my street (sliding)in her car, stopped just short of the school fence, oops, her son got out .told her she had enough room to go round (missing the fence ) what does she do???? got out & sprayed some de-icer on the ground nr the back wheel, yes she moved off ok , iv'e never in all my driving life seen that one done before. my street is like an ice ring this morning........even i had to park round the corner cos it slid round there last night.
