Snow - will it or won't it?
Well they were talking snow on the radio this morning, they say it could be on Thursday or Friday, what do you think.
Its bad enough having to defrost the car every morning , never mind slipping and sliding everywhere. Give me the wind and rain anyday. |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
just got back from walking the dog - was ratherrr funny; you know on those 70's cartoons where the people start to run and dont go anywhere? thats me and my dog trying to walk around the streets tonight!!
my dog is all legs you see so the poor lad looks a bit like bambi when it gets like this....its all a good larf though!! |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?

im 17 in four minutes!!! wooooo! |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Met.check said it is supposed to snow lightly on Thursday and Friday!!!
Whether it will happen or not is another question |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
The Met Office now have a severe weather warning out for the whole country covering Thursday Friday and Saturday.
Snow, Hail, Sleet and Strong Northerly Winds. Windchill - minus 10C:eek: Happily, because this is coming in from the North we should be spared the worst here in our cosy little bit of East Lancs, the lovely Pennines will shelter us from the worst of it. |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
I'd much rather have snow than frost, as it's not as slippy. Though I'm not keen on snow when it turns to slush. My 7year old loves both, it took us an extra 10 minutes to walk to school yesterday 'cos he was purposely sliding all the way. He's not daft though he wouldn't let go of my hand, I'm sure it grew a couple of inches with all the dragging on it.:)

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
So the met say possible snow and a possible -10 sounds like a fun weekend ahead. Sledge is ready but the chance of it lying here are pretty slim. :(
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
According to Metcheck.com, the Snow will arrive in Lancashire at around 3pm on Thursday afternoon and stay with us till around midnight. The actual window of opportunity is from 9am Thursday to 3pm Friday, but it is the 3pm to Midnight slot that is forecast with 100% probability. Below 200Metres it should fall as sleet.
To put that into some sort of perspective; The Griffin at Huncoat stands at a couple of metres short of 200 and the coppice is around the 245Metre mark. So... Wet, Windy, Slushy and pretty damn cold! I wouldn't get the bobsleigh out just yet, unless you live at Green Haworth or the Isle of Skye. But it might be a good idea to make sure that you have got plenty of antifreeze for the car. It will be a pretty nasty ride home from work on Thursday. |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Well it looks like my sledging is canned this weekend it will snow but it wont lying around for long. Going to go to a corner and weep. :s_cry:
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Personally, I hope it doesn't......snow looks Ok in pictures......but in reality, it is a pain.....plus I don't want any travel delays this weekend.....I'm off to Exmouth.

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
I don't want snow until Christmas. The thought of bad weather stopping our trip to Ossy on 22 December is terrifying - I don't mind once we get there, it can snow the whole country in for all I care, but PLEASE hold off until after 22 December!
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Its my daughters 10th birthday tomoz & shes been praying it will snow again on her birthday - happened on her 1st birthday & it was a really bad snowfall that luckily people managed to get to us but getting home was another story we had a few feet of snow within hours!! So for past week she has been hoping it will do it again & scarily could be very possible lol altho if its bad Harry Potter is off lmao

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
A-B wind from north/nor-west will blow straight into our neck of the woods and the beloved pennines will whip round and make for drifting snow and freezing conditions...................................i dont want snow this weekend as I'm on NIGHTS!!!!!!!!!
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm might have to see about getting a fwd amb out just in case we end up in the moors brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Who do I complain to if I dont get the snow I want for the weekend?
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Sorry, bit of an "Observer" moment there, I meant, of course, North/Northeast. Well, one cannot be perfect all the time.

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
I'm hoping that we get some. I’ve just winterised my walking kit so I’m hope for a dump in the lakes. There’s a chance of a little mid week and a promise of a fall on Sunday afternoon.
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
If it snow's then I just hope it snow's when I dont have to go out.
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Sorry, being selfish I know because I don't have to go out in it, but I wanted it to snow today. It looks like we are going to miss it but Scotland and Wales will get it.:(
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
i got told it was going to snow last night but it hasnt but as they say it is too cold to snow
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Just looked out of the office window - AAARRGH! - horizontal sleet, absolutely foul.
Why can't human beings hibernate? - just wake up for Christmas, then off again until March. |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Same this side of town. We should'nt be getting this before Accy, surely? Or has the Met Office cocked up again?
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Well clear and sunny for the most part in my area. It made a very wimpish effort to snow then gave up. North of Aberdeen there are plaes that are snowed in so sleat dont sound to bad. As for the Met office the day they get it right will be the day their jobs are on the line.
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Still have to go to work tomorrow if it snows. As i was leaving this evening i got told i am within walking distance and shall be expected in on time. There's some misserable people around.

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?

|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
I don’t believe that Avatar, Mr T. It’s appears to be on the cards in the Lakes on Sunday, I’m looking forward to that.
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
What a let down, no snow. Though please don't let it snow on Sunday i have to drive early Monday morning and there's no way of getting out of it.
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
At least it aint going to be frosty. Or snow is supposed to be Sunday and Monday and I will be working. :(
|
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
So what happened to the snow? Saw two flakes of it and it was all over with!

:) It was you whipping us all into a frenzy with news of the worst winter since 1963, that you posted from your fancy metrological site, that started it all. I have a pantry full of those all in English breakfasts, that come in tins of beans, thanks to you. If it doesn't snow by May I'll invite you round for supper, just don't light up after eating or we'd both die when the gas was ignited. |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
How did you know that baked beans were my favorite vegetable? How very intuitive of you...not to say spooky.
As for the rest, the coldest winter for 10 or more years is still on the cards. Don't go putting away those winter woollies just yet. |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
Well if it is the coldest then I am ready but then again it could also be the mildest in a while as well.

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
At the moment all we've got up here is sunshine. It did try this morning but little more than a few flakes. Can someone grab some photos? Might have a run over if it’s deepish….:)

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
I got some fotos yesterday too, but have no idea how to get them from the camera on to the computer. Doh!
Yesterday was the first time I have ever driven in the snow, was fairly interesting attempting to get of my road. Earlier, I had watched someone completly mess up driving around the corner and she'd gone up the pavement on the opposite corner. It took 3 of them to put her in the direction she actually wanted , then she just abandoned her car at some strange angle directly behind my car! |
Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
i have just seen the most amazing thing!!!!! a lady came down my street (sliding)in her car, stopped just short of the school fence, oops, her son got out .told her she had enough room to go round (missing the fence ) what does she do???? got out & sprayed some de-icer on the ground nr the back wheel, yes she moved off ok , iv'e never in all my driving life seen that one done before. my street is like an ice ring this morning........even i had to park round the corner cos it slid round there last night.

Re: Snow - will it or won't it?
I would normally say she was bonkers but it works so will give here the benifit of the doubt. :)
