How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

......... or Pretty Woman, or Terminator, or Star Wars?

There are some films that it's possible to watch over and over again. They're not necessarily what you'd call your favourite film. In fact, they're usually quite bland films that almost wash over you.

So which film have you watched the most?

By the way, I thought of this thread the other night because Patrick Swayze was on TV. He's 55ish and looks quite good but he denied having a face lift - I'm afraid I didn't buy it! Did anyone else see him - what do you think?

Tinkerbelle 27-11-2005 20:25

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

Face lift or not looking like that at his age who cares ....... phwooarrghhh !!! Richard Gere is another one, it would be good to go to a 'grab a grandad' night if them 2 were going :D

Except Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing and Quadrophenia, which are my favourites, I still enjoy watching Beetlejuice or Grease anytime and Hellraiser.

Oh yeah and Wizard Of Oz

Gayle 27-11-2005 20:27

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

Not denying he looks ok - would definitely prefer Richard Gere though - or Harrison Ford for that matter. I feel a poll coming on.

SPUGGIE J 27-11-2005 20:39

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

Star Wars 1 or is it 4  well the first ever Star wars it was with its effects were ahead of their time. :D

The film or the TV series Spuggie, is the important question?

No I missed it.
I was gutted.
He is the sexiest Actor ever.

There are 3 films I never get tired of watching and they all star the wonderful Jimmy Stewart.

1. It's a Wonderful Life
2. Harvey
3. The Glenn Miller Story

All right, you guessed, I loved Jimmy and I'm a Miller fan. Here are 3 films that will never date. I can cry at the first, laugh at the second and get transported by the music of the 3rd. Can you ask for anything more? :)

Gayle 27-11-2005 20:58

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

Really Spuggie????? I'd have to say the other way round (TV better than film) - but then again I am remembering the series from the benefit of my fuzzy memory.

I've not seen it either.

The chick flick films I watch are mainly German.

Yes I have seen that. I do not mind Richard Gere, just not over keen on American chick flicks.

Though he was rather good in The Mothman Prophercies. Not that you could really call that a chick flick of course!

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

I have seen Dirty dancing two or three times but I've seen others a lot more!!
Highlander is a particular fave, Tarantino's Kill Bill & Pulp Fiction are immensely watchable over and over again and of course the classic westerns like Outlaw Josey Wales / Two Mules For Sister Sara / Dollars trilogy / Once upon a Time in The West etc
Probably loads more if I thought about it!!

I don't mind admitting that I'm a James Stewart fan, No matter what the age some of the themes are timeless. Dirty dancing is something I struggled to watch the first time let alone ever again. Most modern films on DVD I'll sit and watch over again when I'm bored, but anything with Heyley Mills in it or her father for that matter, To Sir with Love with Lulu and Sidney Pottier is a good one I don't mind seeing again. You can't beat a good classic movie....

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

I must have seen the Die Hard movies the most - Die Hard with avengance is brilliant ive seen it 100+ times!

Ive seen 'Tommy' way too many times aswell, cant get enough of that deaf dumb & blind kid!!

sarah 28-11-2005 15:25

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

I own Dirty Dancing, and I could quite happily sit and watch it any time. A real feel good film.

Current fave has to be Batman Begins.

Bad-Wolf 28-11-2005 15:36

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

Fav film at the minute has to be the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I know that strictly speaking that amounts to three, but still!)

As for tv............. well it would have to be Doctor Who!

Yes, I know it is not a film!

chav1 28-11-2005 17:31

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

the only benefit dirty dancing has for the male population is that if you can sit through this tedious piece of nausiating drivel and hold down the puke your gonna get lucky with the girl you watch it with :D

point break was one of his better films coz the ladys got 2 pieces of eye candy patrick and kianu reeves and the men got a good action film so both goto bed happy :)

I've watched Dirty Dancing and Pretty Women more times than I can remember, brilliant feel good films.

I have Dirty Dancing on video somewhere and I have seen it a few times. I have to disagree that Patrick Swayze is still looking good, because I thought he looked dog rough on the Jonathon Ross show. I wouldn't mind but I had had a glass of wine and people usually start looking better after alcohol. It seems that my beer goggles aren't working as well as they used to...:D

Sidney Poitier - a fine actor. I have watched "The Heat of The Night" also starring Rod Steiger, another good and under-rated actor, many times.

I'm not into Patrick Sawyze at all but one film of that genre I do like is "Grease", with The Lovely John Travolta. Now, I like him - or I did when he was that age anyway - and the music's good, and it's set in my era - the 50s.

Has anyone ever watched a film called 'Dancing through the dark'??

It's about a woman that goes on her hen night, then ends up falling in love with this fella, I think he was the singer, and ends up not getting married, but going off with the singer??

Sounds crap when I'm telling it, but it's a good film and i remember watching it when i was about 14 years old and never saw it ever again!!

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

West Ender. Glen Miller, Elvis, Whistle Down the Wind, and now To Sir With Love.

I adore that film. I love the title track. I love Lulu, and I was soooo in love with Judy Geeson. Sidney Poitier was brilliant as the teacher that touched his pupil's lives.

We share so many similar tastes do you think we may be related?

I have to admit I like a good old British Classic Black and White film, be it an knock about funny or a good tear jerker either way all to often it results in tears rolling down the cheeks.

the only black and white film i recall seeing is Laurel & Hardy's 'Way Out West' - absolutely hilarious!

He was, though now of course we've lost Ullverston to Cumbria.

There is/was a muesum to him there. It was one of the funniest afternoons I've ever spent and well worth a visit. It's basically the house he was born in full of tat, and the man who shows you round is very serious.

Indeed, though this may merely be a technicality!

Apparently Lancashire is still intact! Greater Manchester and Mersyside, and of course those bits we lost to Cumbria and Cheshire are merely controlled by another administrative region!

Personally I think that is naff. Though it is what I have been told.

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

The best films are those that can still make you laugh or cry after hundreds of viewings. I can always settle down with "Some like it hot" and cry with laughter. That final line "Nobody's perfect" cracks me up every time. Also I love "The Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values" (weird taste, I know). If you want a real tear-jerker, go for "Brief Encounter" (incidentally shot at Carnforth Station). And I can still be on the edge of my seat, even knowing what happens, watching "Rear Window" (another great Jimmy Stewart film).

Acrylic-bob 29-11-2005 19:25

Re: How many times have you watched Dirty Dancing

For some strange reason the final shot of Close Encounters of the Third Kind always brings a tear to my eye. And for laughs, the Marx Brothers in A Night at the Opera is pretty hard to beat.

Hmmmm, now who does Margaret Dumont remind me of?????

I'm definitely not your mum, I'd remember :D . I know my family tree but, well, rootlets do spring up from time to time, don't they? Maybe we share a common ancestor - and when I say common I don't mean "common" - if you know what I mean. :wacko8:
