Snouts in the trough!

Following hard on the heels of the Turner report, which recommends that, unless we are public sector workers, we must work till the age of 68 to qualify for the paltry state pension, comes this heartwarming couple of tales of the trials and tribulations of Westminster folk...

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...897351,00.html

Which, for some, might be hard enough to swallow, but it is the next one which really riles me...

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...901733,00.html

If, like me, you would not pay any of them with the holes out of washers, here is your opportunity to tell the champion of Human Rights for Goldfish what you estimate that he and his colleagues are really worth...

Re: Snouts in the trough!

maybe MP'S should have to strip off their clothes for their payrises since the coomunity wardens have had to resort to it to keep their jobs never mind a payrise

How much butt kissing would I need to earn that money in a year?

Re: Snouts in the trough!

us normal workers dont get expenses why should they..£59,095 is a hell of a lot of money why cant they pay their own way ????like the rest of us ..
instead of junkets to the caribean first class at all inclusive hotels ,it would be sleasy jet flights to blackpool ,premier travel inn and a slap up meal at mac donalds .....money saved =2 new hospitals and the staff to go with them !!!bit of an exageration on that one but we agree loads of money would be saved !!

Re: Snouts in the trough!

I am inclined to agree with Geoff on this one. I appreciate that as part of their Job that they have to travel to London, which is of course a long way if you are anywhere north of Watford. As with any other employment that requires travelling they should get a travel allowance when having to travel on work related buisness.

However, £59-000 is taking the bloody P*ss!

Dont forget second residences personal assistants (very personal in some cases) taxis entertainment bills. The kist could go on and all that for sitting on a bench with 600 plus who are as bad.

You have just unwittingly put forward an argument for the abolition af Parliament and the return of an Absolute Monarchy (which as it happens I am rather keen on)!

Lets face it, at least you expect the Royals to spend money on party's!

Not this bunch of looney labour moron's

Indeed they are!

Perhaps they could use this new found power by sticking Fat John Prescotts head on a pike and using his recycled flab to reduce world starvation!

Only one problem there would be the Save The Whale campaigners. :D

Perhaps that would not be such a bad thing. They could put him in one of those special reserves where people could come and look at him and even possibly throw food at him at feeding time!

is their a difference we exchange one set of tyrants for another !
i quote the patriot benjamin martin when asked if he would support the american war of independence ."Why should I agree to swap one tyrant three thousand miles away for three thousand tyrants one mile away?
so instead of having just one greedy tyrant we have 600 to feed and keep in the luxury they are used to...

Bad-Wolf 08-12-2005 16:06

Re: Snouts in the trough!

I do not consider the Monarch or her heirs to be tyrants, however I understand and except your point.

However, rather them than corrupt bent socialist rather alleged socialist politicians who are only thinking of themselves and lining their own pockets at other peoples expense. They are interesting in nothing more than trying to put themselves in the history books and are not looking beyond the end of their noses.

Lets face it. If things went to a referendum, (even with Charles being as unpopular as he has been this last few years) Between Charles III and President Blair we would have an absolute Monarch tomorrow!

the only difference between the queen and mp's is that although they both get paid for sitting on their arses the queen has to wave her hand while doing so.

good value for money all that extra hand waving

anyway better not mouth off about the queen too much or i may find myself dead in a crashed car somwhere in a tunnel in france :engsmil:

Re: Snouts in the trough!

Just to clarify a point about Public Sector workers. I'm a Civil Servant and, yes, we can retire at 60, though I am past that age and still working because my CS pension will be very small. Civil Servants who retire at age 60 get their CS pension, to which they have contributed like any other pension fund and which is based on their years of reckonable service, but they don't get the State Retirement Pension (men) until they are 65.

There has been so much media hype about this and people are being conned into thinking that we get the State Pension earlier than those in the Private Sector. It just ain't so.

Bear in mind also that, unless one is a Senior Civil Servant (a Sir Humphrey), there's no comparison with the pay and pensions that our beloved MPs can expect. As I said, after 25 years service I can't afford to retire before I'm 65 when I will slide into genteel poverty. On the other hand, perhaps I could become an MP?

park381 10-12-2005 21:26

Re: Snouts in the trough!

This is something our Gov. has failed to point out, you can not draw the "state pension" until you reach the age of 65 (male) if the limit is raised to 68 that is when you will be able to draw the "state pension", but if you have paid in to a private pension all your working life and that pension will support you at the age of 60 then go for it. Live off the private pension and collect the "state pension" when its due

Know where you are coming from west ender, happened to an accounts clerk in our office, not enough years in to draw a reasonable pension at 60, so finished up working on, just as you are having to do.

Re: Snouts in the trough!

Thats fair enough but what will the state pension be by the time I retire? I have a private pension which I get at 60 but if there is a state pension will it be worth anything. I willchoose to work as long as I am fit to in the hope that I can enjoy my last few years.

If your private pension will support you and family at 60, then I would say retire, all to many times I have seen people work on and not live to draw the state pension. I got out just before my 63rd birthday, and have enjoyed the last 2 years without the pressure of work, plus I draw the state pension in Jan. :)

Re: Snouts in the trough!

Wether it will or not would come down to the age old problem of market forces unfortunately. As they are not making big gains I am considering upping my contributions as a countermeasure.
