Re: A Fool And His Money ...
The shortage is due to the short roll-out time by Microsoft. Usually they are released in Japan first, then about 6 months later it hits the States, then they reckon about 9 months after that it is released in Europe. This time it is being done within a few weeks, so the manufacturers in China are having a hard time of it.
It seems that HMV (and other stores) are having a tough time - the earliest you can expect to get one on the high street is February, as they have been inundated with pre-orders Heard this on Radio 4 earlier today. |
Re: A Fool And His Money ...

Re: A Fool And His Money ...
always hold out on new technology
the last time microsoft slashed £100 off the price to compete with sony i will give microsoft credit though because those who paid full price within a certain time period before the huge price slash were given rebates or some compensation liek game vouchers so as not to upset those who had just paid the full price |
Re: A Fool And His Money ...
What makes me laugh is that Microsoft actually LOSE money on every console made. They want as many as possible out there as they make the profit on game licenses.
The Xbox360 was also rushed out to beat Sony at any price. last time the PS2 beat the Xbox out and they reckon it cost sales of about 1 million units in the first year. |
Re: A Fool And His Money ...
sony have a very big head start over microsoft in the console market but i reakon its getting smaller each year , to say the xbox was microsofts forst venture into the console industry they did pretty well especialy as thay out lasted nintendos gamecube
all consoles make more money from the games than the consoles themselves but i am dissapointed that the games for the 360 are £50 but i cant see the ps3 games been any cheaper either now i underdstand your a linux fan so i also assume like most linux users i know you have a bee in your bonnet about microsoft lol yes linux is better but windows is more popular which is the similar problem the xbox360 will have against the ps3 , 360 is better but ps3 has sonys popularity and peopel are more familiar with the trademark playstation so peope tend to go for whatthey are used to rather than try somthing new |

Re: A Fool And His Money ...
Windows is more popular due to it historically being bundled with all PCs. Linux was untill very recently seen as a server OS and it is only due to massive advances in desktop software that it can now compete with Windows for a home user. With markets such as China and India (The two most populous countries in the world) both using linux in greater and greater numbers I forsee Linux outsripping Windows with the next 5-10 years. Such is Microsofts worry abouthis that they are trying to offer 'cut down' versions of Windows to these nations to tempt users who quite simply cannot afford teh cost of Windows XP.
Do I have a bee in my bonnet? maybe a little one but probably for not the reason you think. I have no issue with people making money from selling IT services(after all that is what I do for a living!). What I do disagree with is when substandard software with enormous security holes in isn't patched as they would rather add 'Feature X' instead. This leaves end users with problems that can cost them financially to fix or though massive inconvienience through downtime. It also means I spend far more time than I should fixing friends computers. In over 7 years of using linux I have NEVER had an exploit or system bug cost me any downtime. I like everyone else want my computer to work when I need it. Linux offers me that stability and resilience. It also fits with my commercial awareness :) Ian |
