So much to remember....
 

I've been doing a quick tot up of numbers, user names and passwords that I have to remember and it's a really high number - add in to that phone numbers that I know off by heart and it's amazing that there's room in my brain for anything else.

Accyweb user name and password = 2
Other chat site user name and password = 2
Bank accounts - two account numbers plus online banking user names and passwords, plus cash point pin numbers = 8
Ebay - account user name and password = 2
Amazon - account user name and password = 2
Credit card pin number = 1
Security codes to get in to work = 2
Security alarm at home = 1
Important family telephone numbers = 9
Random business and friends telephone numbers that I can't get out of my brain = 12 (approx)
My own mobile number = 1
My home telephone number = 1


That's 43 pieces of information and I'm pretty sure there's more - bet other people can beat that easily but I still think it's a lot to have floating around in there.

I'm lazy, and if anybody ever works out my one password/pin number my life will be in tatters.

i know where youre coming from gayle, i'm just back on line after losing all my files etc,its a nightmare trying to remember passwords-web addresses etc,i thought i'd saved them all to a disc- it said i had @ veryified it! but the disc was blank! you may find this hard to believe but i SWORE lol:mad:

Thats terrible cashy swearing. I gave up backing my computer to disc and bought an external hard drive for all my backups and important guff and only have it on if required. Beats pulling my hair out if this goes down.

I'd forgotten my online signins for M&S, Tesco and Asda, so that's another set to remember.

Plus the password to get onto the network at Mid Pennine.

Have to admit that occassionally I use the same password for more than one thing but it still means I have to remember which password goes where. And with some you have to put digits in rather than letters so I use a 1 instead of an I or a 4 instead of a A - all things that add to the general mix!

They would have to put the window in to enter. If I am going anywere for any lenghth of time they go with me. Joys of a laptop. And they go into the laptop case then into an ordinary rucker with other odds and ends. hate attracting attension with the case on its own or one of the fancy ruckers.

My Brother-in-law worked for the L.C.C. and when they first introduced networked computers he proudly told me that his password was easy to remember and even easier to type, I said do you mean 'fred'?
Gosh he said how did you know? I told him that at the time people new to computers always looked for something simple and the most popular was 'fred'! (All the keys are next to each other).

Gosh he said I thought I was being clever.

A few weeks later he said, I've been in touch and got my password changed.

I said, is it 'derf' by any chance? He looked astonished and asked how do you know? I replied that the most popular password for people that are new to computers when they discover that 'fred' is so popular always reverse it and change their password to 'derf'!

Another popular password used to be 'Master' because that was the password used by the evil one in the Disney film 'Tron'.

An IT bod at my old company said she could probably crack anyone's password within a few minutes of talking to them. I laughed and she said, just watch. She then turned around and said to the girl at the next desk to me, "you've got a dog, haven't you, what did you say it was called?" "Molly" was the reply - two seconds later the IT bod was in to the girl's profile!

I really daren't tot up the number of things I have to remember....it would be much too scary. Gayle, are you also expected to remember all the birthdays....not just for your own family, but those of his family.....and friends too....? I know that I am. If anything ever happens to me my hubby will be unable to get any money from the hole in the wall so he will starve to death......and no-one will get either cards or presents.

Yes Margaret, and we have one diary in our house - it's mine! I have to keep notes of things like his and the kids dentist appts and all our social life! I would be totally, totally lost without my diary though - I have to write that down. It's one of my 'fun' jobs between Christmas and New Year to transfer all my key dates into my new diary.

gayle i am very good at remembering usernames and passord so please feel free to pm me your passwords etc to online banking etc for safe storage , its always a good idea to have a backup incase yu forget and i realy dont mind adding your usernames and passwords to my list :D
