large explosion!!!!!
breaking news!!!! there has been an explosion at an oil refinary in hemel hempstead , not sure of the cause yet!
|
Re: large explosion!!!!!
Lettie & I have just been watching video footage of the explosion on CNN, in our hotel in Reims.
CNN have speculated that a plane crashed into the oil refinery. Could the terrorists be on a Christmas campaign? |
Re: large explosion!!!!!
The Police are saying it is an accident on BBC
|
Re: large explosion!!!!!
Hope it was an accident on not a terror campaign. I stay close to the giant BP/Inovene complex up here. Along with GE plastics, the plants that were part of the old ICI set up and numerous other chemical and plastics companies. If the refinery went up my little spot would be obliterated and the fire fighting would start 3 miles away as the crow flies as everything up to the point will be blown into oblivion.

Re: large explosion!!!!!
The time bomb up here has the smokers in sealed rooms and no lighters or matches are allowed. Anything that can spark is banned (explaining lack of bright sparks in management) Any onsite viechle has to be deisel powered and the exhausts fitted with spark arresters. Even safty boots have to have a hard wearing cover on the toe to stop the toe cap being exposed. Any kind of plant has to be inspected daily by their own safty crews and a 24 hour permit issued. No wonder people think an external force might have been at work.

Re: large explosion!!!!!
A few up here.

Re: large explosion!!!!!
This is probably wide of the mark but, how strange that this should happen just days after it was announced in the press that Bin Laden's second in command had called for attacks against the oil industry.

Re: large explosion!!!!!
Maybe it is a coincedence but it is one hell of one. I have got this urgent need all of a sudden to leave Grangemouth.
|
Re: large explosion!!!!!
We've got family down that way. Busman's brother said they were woken up by the bang. The black cloud is massive!
|
Re: large explosion!!!!!
The long term environmental effect must be a worry. I heard there were concerns that when it next rains it will be black and that would affect the water and the milk supply (cows eating polluted grass)!!!
|
Re: large explosion!!!!!
Surely that black cloud will lead to long term health issues regardless of what the experts are saying.
|
Re: large explosion!!!!!
It's a clear blue sky here today, slightly damp this morning. There must have been some serious digital manipulation occured in the press rooms yesterday evening because the "Black Cloud over London" pictures, published in today's papers, bore no resemblance to what could be seen from the ground yesterday, which was nowt. I probably spoke to about 50 people yesterday & not one person heard the explosion (supposidly hard in Holland); in fact 3 or 4 of them were not even aware of what had happened. A bit of a blaze, thats all.

Re: large explosion!!!!!
Typical of the press rooms anything to up a story.
