Yeah, MGB GT in Red is defiantly up there. Or the faithful and beautifully crafted Jaguar MK II with Red lower body work and Beige/Mushroom? Upper body work.

Over the years I've owned the following

Mk 1 Escort 1300GT. I rally prep'd it and it was quick. Only problem was I was 20 and drove it like an idiot everywhere. I could powerslide it round pretty much any corner and did so. I sold it as I picked up a speeding and knew it wouldn't be long before I lost my license in it so I sold it and bought.....

Mk3 Ford Zephyr 4. Big Black, fins and all. Bench seat, column change 70mph flat out but a total pose of a car. It had a cracking reg as well 214 GUV. I REALLY enjoyed this car. It took me all over and was totally reliable and cheap. BUt I got teh fast car bug again so bought....

!97 MGB GT - 1800 in blue, a pretty looking thing but to be totally honest I didn't like it much. To give an idea After about 12 months I was offered.....

1968 Triumph Vitesse. A rather tatty looking Mk1 2 litre. It had stood for 3 years and I got it going in less than 5 minutes, It needed a new tyre and some points for its MOT and that was it. In a morning I would walk out with keys to the MGB and teh Vitesse in my hand and 90% of the time I took teh Triumph. It was such a nicer car to drive, was quicker ( 40-80 top gear acceleration is faster than a 911 believe it or not!) and just made me smile. It took me to Paris and we even did the total journey home in 12 hours including a 4 hour ferry crossing!. Julie fell asleep as we left the suburbs of paris and woke up as we passed the Redcap!

I had to sell it as Julie was learning to drive and they wouldn't insure her with it. So we bought a Fiesta and an an A40. This didn't get much mileage as it was a full crash box and tended to overheat a bit. Unfortunately we lived on Westwood street at the time and some kids smashed a window and let the handbrake off. One dented front later it was written off. :(

We then bought a Herald based kit car called a Moss Malvern. It was a Morgan lookalike which I repainted Yellow. It still knocks arounbd town so you may see it from time to time.

Which would I have again? I loved the Escort. it was a fun drive. I also really enjoyed the Zephyr and the Vitesse, any of these would also be welcome in my garage.

So what dream car? An original 356 or early 911 is a must. The other would have to be a Citroen DS convertible. Absolutely one of the most beautiful cars ever made full stop. A DB4 or a Bristol would also be on the list I guess

Gorgeous just doesn't come close.

What you also have to remember is at the time that these cars were new we were still making Austin Cambridges, moggie minors and the like. They must have looked like spaceships to the kids of the day. Never mind the hydraulic suspension, lights that turned with the steering(As has been just reinvented by one manufacturer) and total comfort.

My dad had a Vanden Plas when i was a teenager. It was a beautiful metalic blue, cream leather interior with walnut dash. He washed it every Sunday and got the chamois leather on it. It had a beautiful chrome grill on the front, a little like a mini Rolls-Royce.
Can still remember the reg of it. JRN 522N and we nick named it Junior. It was brand new when we got it. So comfy and we used to push our noses up in the air when we travelled in it.

the only real car i like is the TVR tasmin:engsmil: , back in the 80's look at it now compared to the new one it looks pretty $hit!! lol now i like the TVR tuscan and the new sagaris!! beautiful car if i may say so!!
