Happy New Year - no, really!
It may interest some of you to note that the New Year has already begun!
It commenced this evening at 18:35 (Universal Time). This is also the exact timing of the Winter Solstice, so from here the nights begin to get shorter and the days begin to get longer, it also marks the start of Winter. Still, as the poet observed; if winter is come, can spring be far behind? |

Re: Happy New Year - no, really!
I look forward to this day every year. I know it's daft but it feels like we're walking into a tunnel up unto this point and we're now allowed to start walking out of it. I'm sure a psychologist would have a field day with my analogy but I can't tell you how much I dislike dark mornings and dark evenings.
It's not that I'm a sun lover or that I can't stand the cold or the rain - I don't mind either even in summer - it's just the having to get out of bed in the dark. It doesn't help that I work in a dungeon and so when I come out at night it's already dark and it doesn't feel like I've had a day. Thank goodness for the 21st December! |

Me too Gayle......I know that the days only lengthen by a 'cockstride'......but like you I feel we have turned the corner out of the dark and are moving towards the light. Roll on March.

I can see the light!!!!!! Ok I know it takes a while before we the nights actually start getting lighter, but knowing we have the shortest day over does give a positive pyschological boost :)
