Christmas or Xmas?
I've noticed that most people on here stick to the traditional Christmas. I have to admit I'm not a big fan of Xmas, what does everyone else think? Quick poll!

Re: Christmas or Xmas?
I hate the word Xmas.....it has to be Christmas for me.
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
not religious at all, well not Christian; but hate the word Xmas - just brings about all the things that are wrong with modern society and how fake people are now.
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Xmas for me, lazy writer!
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Always Christmas, I think it belittles the true meaning of Christmas when Christ is removed from it.
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Well it has to be Christmas as Xmas sounds like a computer game.
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Christmas in real life but definately xmas in the virtual world, 5 letters makes a big difference on the keyboard :D
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
I use both, prob as roy said on here I would be lazy and use xmas and also on text. But do like to see Merry Christmas rather than Merry Xmas
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
neither prefer happy holidays.:)
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
I stil pronounce Xmas as Christmas so in spoken language it makes no difference. If I'm chit-chatting it's Xmas, If I am writing formally (Cards, or at work) I use Christmas.
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Definitely Christmas but when I was in Chicago last week, one thing that really got on my nerves was their constant use of the phrase "Happy holidays". I really hope it never catches on over here!

Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Humm never really thought about it.
I suppose i just write whatever comes out but when i have to sit and write out 50 or so christmas/xmas cards i think xmas is what is written. lol |
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
It's Christmas most of the time. But I do tend to use xmas when texting.

does no one say 'crimbo' anymore? i always say that!!
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Even though I struggle writing I would never write Xmas. A horrid Americanism that came over with trailer park outdoor lights.
Yall have a nice Xmas, ya here.:) |
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
its got to be christmas for me sorry to say but xmas in my eyes is the lazy way of pronuncing the old festive time .apologies for my opinion but i hate cards that have been sent to you saying happy xmas
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Since it is common to mean a kiss, by substituting X, it makes it look like people are saying Merry Kissmass, which sounds like fun.
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Well put it that way, it sounds so much better - get the mistletoe out!
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Only reduced to Xmas after writing a little too large on a Christmas Card and no room left, which is often as I do tend to witter on with my Christmas Greetings.
Can't ever think I have been wished 'Happy Xmas' verbally. Christmas is a much prettier sounding word anyway. Don't think Happy Noel would ever catch on either. Anyway, here's hoping it's a HAPPY CHRISTMAS for all of us. xxx |
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
I only ever use "Xmas" in phone text to save time and space.
|
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
i prefer christmas but xmas is a lot easier to write .and its just as meaningful...
HAVE A GREAT XMAS EVERYONE:engsmil: |

As an Atheist I can't understand why people would want to call Christmas, Xmas, I also hate the word? Chrimbo    it means nothing and demeans the festival. You don't get Hindus calling Diwali, Divvy now do you? or muslims calling Eid, Edie baby so why not give the festival some respect? If you are celebrating the festival then call it what it is, not a shorthand version cause you can't be bothered. (Yes I will be giving presents and going to my parents tomorrow, but as the children would rip me to shreds otherwise it's called compromising :) ). Have a great day tomorrow all of you.:D |
Re: Christmas or Xmas?
Most people think xmas is a way of shortening christmas but it's Greek of which the new testament was written in and the x represents the first letter of christ in greek.(I think bur no doubt some smart arse will correct me if i'm wrong)
