Cruelty to Children.
I wonder what the world is coming to.
In Sheffield a couple allow their children to starve, and they keep them in a room that is filled with their own excrement.....the eldest child goes to school looking malnourished and unkempt...Social services are contacted but still this family 'fall through the net'. Will there be heads rolling in the Sheffield Social Services Department..... somehow I doubt it. In Essex the Social services go to the other extreme, in that they remove two children from their parents and put them up for adoption because the parents are classed as 'slow'. The parents have just received their yearly photograph of these children and it has broken their hearts. These children were loved and well cared for..... the home was clean and they were well fed. Another report in the newspaper today concerns the systematic torture and killing of a 20 year old girl by her in laws and their family. This girl is reported to have had 60 injuries when found.....and was so badly nourished that the police thought it was the body of a juvenile boy. What has happened to the feelings of care and compassion? How could these people have done these things...... have they no feelings of right and wrong?? I am greatly saddened by reports like these. |
Re: Cruelty to Children.
how anyone can do this to there own flesh and blood, is beyond belief!! they need hanging!!

Re: Cruelty to Children.

Re: Cruelty to Children.

Re: Cruelty to Children.
The couple in Sheffield had a room that was comfortable and kitted out with Play Station, DVD machine.....comfortable furniture, yet they let their children go cold and hungry. The police were almost sick when they saw the conditions that the children had been kept in. They are both in prison now and the children, according to reports, have recovered well. I wonder if they will be given back to their parents once they are released from prison.

Re: Cruelty to Children.
I am always at a loss for words with these cases. These kind of people are never infertile are they?
|
Re: Cruelty to Children.
No....more's the pity....in fact they seem to breed like the proverbials.
|
Re: Cruelty to Children.
I just wonder if society as a whole is geting hardened to cases such as these? Or are we so wrapped up in our own lives so that we don't bother anymore.
I know that people who know me will tell you that i am not a particularly 'child friendly' sort of person.....but it still grieves me to read of these atrocities. |
Re: Cruelty to Children.
It seems tht life is cheap in this day and age and getting cheaper by the year
with little or no regard for most victims. It is a lot worse when children are involved and yet all the groups who should have been protecting the children seem to blaim each other and lack of communication. Maybe if they worked as a team as opposed to small cliques we would see fewer of these kind of cases. |
Re: Cruelty to Children.
Saw the Sheffield incident on TV, how someone could do that is beyond me, and how the SS dept. did not pick it up.........well I think the whole of the Sheffield SS should be sacked.

How many times do you see this happen, the local SS dept. and others fail to get to grips with this sort of problem. There must be set procedures in place, a code of practice that they should be following / working to.

Re: Cruelty to Children.
if this is what the county is like now ,whats in store for us 20 ,30 years down the line ...if our children have no respect for the law school or us ,what happens when they have children ,and so on ..oh! dear...and another thing the soft pc goverment is partly to blame courts soft on criminals ,schools not aloud to disipline unruly pupils well you see were all this is leading to

Re: Cruelty to Children.
I think the whole of the crew at Social services in Sheffield should be prosecuted for professional negigence and the Children should be able to sue them personally for damages.....there must be some Human Rights lawyer out there that would be able to make a case of it.

Re: Cruelty to Children.
Why weren't the evil faces of this couple published on the news reports?
Why did the news crews, who were sent to Sheffield, not asking this families neighbours why they thought society had allowed this to happen? Sadly as a society I think we are all to blame for this dreadful traadgedy. I hope the children who were rescued have a wonderful, warm, loving Christmas with their foster families, and I hope their parents rot in jail. |
Re: Cruelty to Children.

Re: Cruelty to Children.
People are all too often too frightened to 'grass on' bad parents for fear of reprisal. This is probably why the Sheffield kids weren't reported by neighbours. Also we as a society have become insular in that 'as long as it doesn't affect us it's not our problem'.
I do agree that all Sheffield SS who had anything to do with this case should be, a)sacked & b) prosecuted. But you can almost guarentee they wont |

Re: Cruelty to Children.
When I was younger I wanted to be a social worker but realised very quickly that it would break my heart every day and that I wouldn't be able to cope with the pain of seeing what some children go through.
When I read about cases like this I am torn between frustration, anger and the need to hug my own children! Anyone who is lucky enough to have a loving family around them should thank their lucky stars this Christmas. |
Re: Cruelty to Children.
You will find that a lot of children that have gone through this sickening kind of situation don't report for 2 reasons...
1. They don't know any different than the world of abuse they live in 2. Would you believe they hold an overbiding love for their parents Alot of these children go on to develop deep psychological problems and sometimes the cycle with their own children starts all over again. It's a case of breaking that cycle.. it really is disturbing to be confronted by horrendous situations like those mentioned :( |
Re: Cruelty to Children.
anyone who harms childeren should be crushed under a rock! i for one would be happy to crush em.

Re: Cruelty to Children.
this sort of thing is disgusting and the parents should be jailed for life
the way the courts and social services deal with these cases is realy messed up as well. a couple who abuse their child will most likely still get visitation to them and in some cases get them back yet a father seperated from a mother who has done no wrong will only get a handfull of hours each week to see his child i know of one case where a man sexualy abused his child and the courts with the help of social services gave him more access to his child than what i get with both my childrens acess added together anyway i dont want to wander into a different subject but my point is that even after these cases are brought to light it dosnt mean teh child will be safe because social services will most likely reunite the parents with the child at some point  |
Re: Cruelty to Children.
My now adult friend was constantly in and out of care as a child. Her first time in care was at the age of 18 months her last was 17 years. Time and again she was neglected enough to be placed in care only for her mum to promise it wouldn't happen again get her back and repeat. My friend has turned into a good adult/mum but she knows loads who were like her that haven't. This shouldn't be allowed to happen as the kids don't have a continuity of care, how many chances should these 'parents' be given before the neglect/abuse becomes a bad memory to these kids
|
Re: Cruelty to Children.
You friend turned into one of the good ones Debbie and because of her own past would proberly not want it inflicted on others.
|
Re: Cruelty to Children.
Debbie, your friend must be a very special person to have survived all those problems
|
Re: Cruelty to Children.
The couple in question got 7 years in prison.
Apparently neighbours had reported the neglect of the children to social services.....they said that they couldn't gain access. The Father in this case suffers mental health problems too.....but it didn't stop him from having a comfortable warm place to sit.....Satellite TV, DVDs. The youngest two children were twins (I think) and the Mum failed to turn up for her post natal check ups.......and these babies were so badly malnourished when they were found that they almost died. |
Re: Cruelty to Children.
This really makes you sick, there must be 100's of couples out there that are desperate to have children and can't for what ever reason, and then you hear of this happening. The kids will end up in foster care, from there where ? it is very very sad.

Social Services are playing god and need a huge boot up the rear. If child protection is a priority why do we keep hearing more of these sickining cases year in year out.
|
Re: Cruelty to Children.
I know it's not a very popular opinion but I agree with Park and Chav about the way society is going and why. It's a nightmare. The way those poor children were treated is awful. 7 years isn't long enough. How could the parents sit in luxury and just ognore them like that? It beggars belief.
When Social Services or Health Visitors or whatever couldn't get access that should have made them try all the harder. At least the father did do something when one of the twins was "lifeless" or we may have been reading about the children being found dead. I hope they are never reunited. Anyone who mistreats an animal in such a way is forbidden to keep a pet in future. Any parent treating their children this way should never be permitted to be a parent again. |
