I always forget something...
 

Despite all my planning I always forget one thing - not the same thing every year I hasten to add. And it's not as though I've forgotten to buy that thing it's just that I've forgotten to cook it.

One year it was the parsnips - after we'd eaten our meal I realised that there was a tray of uncooked parsnips waiting on the surface that I'd forgotten to put in. Another year I found the unopened jar of cranberry sauce in the cupboard the day after and realised what I'd missed off the table. Another year it was custard - again found it in the cupboard the day after.

I really thought I'd got it all this year but of course I hadn't. This year what did I forget - stuffing! As I was delving into the cupboards to find the mince pies and cake for afters I saw the unopened box of Paxo! Aaaaarggggh! Oh, well, there's always next year to get it right!

I bet they all noticed but were just being kind. After all, how can you eat turkey without stuffing :rolleyes:

Three years ago I was asked to have Christmas lunch at my friends, who had just moved into their new house in Glasgow.

The 18llb bird was smothered in butter, wrapped in bacon and tin foil, and duly put in the oven at an hour that would mean it would be ready for us to sit down to eat at abour four o'clock.

Sadly as well as a new house, it was also a new oven. It wasn't until three o'clock that they realised that Big Bird had been under the grill in the combination oven for six hours. We eventually had our Christmas lunch at ten at night, by which time were were all too drunk and full of nuts to eat more than a few mouthfuls.

You're right Neil. Just as everyone else on this thread is being nice to me and trying to make me feel better. My Mum said she'd noticed but didn't want to mention anything!

Give Gayle a break it was Xmas! Which, if anything like most mums on Xmas day, she was probably trying to do half a dozen things at once. :)

If it makes you feel any better I too forgot the stuffing, last year it was the pickles, year before that I think it was the stuffing again. Not worth worrying about though - we can't be perfect 365 days of the year

I too usually forget something. This year it was the pickles and also i did one plate to less, luckilly i had loads left over so quickly made another plate up. One year i went to my sisters (who has two children,) with my two children and she forgot to serve any of the children that was there a meal. They ended up ringing for pizza's and kebabs, they still say it was the best Christmas meal they have ever had.

Yep I forgot the stuffing! All the way through eating I kept thinking ...... somethings missing! I couldn't think for the life in me what it was!!

Well I was in the cupboard yesterday and found it! Wonder if it will save for next year. :D
