Sponsored slim

If you've read your Accrington Observer over the last couple of weeks you'll know that I'm about to start a sponsored slim on New Year's Day. I'm raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. I aim to lose between 10lbs and 14lbs.

Cystic Fibrosis is an awful illness - it's literally a life sentence from birth. The average age that a sufferer lives to is now around 31. Just think of that, imagine knowing from the day you were able to talk that you would only live to 31! How many people on this site are older than 31 - you wouldn't be here now if you had Cystic Fibrosis.

They are doing tremendous work to find a cure for this illness so if you want to find out more about it look on this site - http://www.cftrust.org.uk/index.jsp

As for why I'm doing this - a family member has the illness and every second counts for her in the search for a cure.

If you want to sponsor me (even £2 or £3 would be fantastic) you can now do it on line at

http://www.justgiving.com/gayleknight

Another way of helping - if it's your New Year's resolution to lose a few pounds yourself, why not get sponsored for doing it and donate all the money to CF.

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It's a great cause. We have a friend whose grandaughter has it, and it's heartbreaking disease.

Good luck.

Re: Sponsored slim

OK Gayle, succeeded in pulling me heart strings, followed Granny and donated £10 on your link.
Think you look fine now, however, what you are comfortable with.
Don't forget to leave a little fat around the back area for Chris to grab. ;)

Re: Sponsored slim

They are going head to head in this weeks Observer, with two columns featured.

Fags versus fat.

It's like Blur pitted against Oasis all over again.:)

It would be nice if this could be made a sticky so it stays in the Accyweb eye. A worthy cause Gayle and Good Luck with it.

Re: Sponsored slim

I tried to give out some karma but the only one it would let me give it to was Katie - I have to spread it around a bit more before I give it to you others.

Cheers

Re: Sponsored slim

Poem for January

'Twas the month after Christmas and all through the house, Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The stuffing I'd nibbled, the turkey I'd taste The yummies I'd eaten gone straight to my waist.
The wine and the mince pies,
The bread and the cheese
I should have just said, "No thank you, please."
So as I dressed myself in my boyfriend's old shirt, I couldn't believe my bottom and belly - the girth!

I said to myself, as only I can,
"You can't spend the year disguised as a man!"
So away with the last of the sour-cream dip, Get rid of the fruitcake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished 'Til all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie, not even a lick.
Instead I'll chew on a long celery stick.

I won't have Irish coffees, or chocolates, or pie, I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry:
"I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore- But isn't that what January's for?"
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot,
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

Just a reminder that I'm dieting for charity. I've got pledges of around £150 so far but if anyone else wants to pledge a couple of quid to the cause you can do it via www.justgiving.com/gayleknight or by sending me a pm.

My target is £400 and I'll be giving it to Cystic Fibrosis Trust, if I get any more than £400 I'll give the rest to a local charity.

I'm just watching Super Size Me. It's making me even more determined to succeed. I've never been huge but I know when I'm a few pounds over weight so how come over 25% of Americans are classified obese, and Britain is going the same way?

Watching this programme should be compulsory for children as it's a great deterant.

Graham Jones 03-02-2006 19:03

Re: Sponsored slim

Supersize me is a very revealing film. Morgan whatshisname, when he pukes in the car park on another forced supersize McDonalds. His metabolic figures, when they dived into the health red crises zone, and his GP said your liver is now like paté and you could die anyday now was worrying. He was only 2 weeks into his McDonald diet.

Gayle, you gotta watch the DVD extras though. THe one where he puts MDs burgers & french fries in glass jars and street seller burgers & french fries in glass jars and watches them rot. MDs did seem to not want to break down. The MDs french fries after 10 weeks looked identical to the day they were bought. You gotta watch it. It really put a break on me eating fast food though I never ate a lot anyway.

Gayle 03-02-2006 20:03

Re: Sponsored slim

When I worked in Knutsford, I used to joke that the only fresh salad that I had in a week was the lettuce on a big mac. I lived totally on fast food because I worked long hours and used to pick up my food on the way home.

It got so bad that when I went on holiday I got back to a note from the pizza delivery guy asking if I was ok.

The only good thing at that time was that my lifestyle was so busy that I didn't put weight on. I've obviously changed my diet a lot since then and my lifestyle so now I eat a lot healthier and not just because I've been dieting lately. I would not want to go back to that at all.

Does that mean they pass straight through you without being digested. Now that would be a billion pound invention. Non digestable food so you can eat as much as you want. Imagine being able to eat all that fast food, chocolate and cream cakes, not to mention as much non-digestable beer as you wanted :D

Maybe McDonalds have found the holy grail of the food world.

I get a mention in this week's column, even though it's only because I was complaining that the steady pound a week weight loss was boring.;)

Oy, what Neil is trying to say, in his usual charming way is that I only had the column for 14 weeks this time - it was a fixed period - it was known all along that I would be stopping it because I am standing for local election here in Oswaldtwistle.

:)

Yes, I managed the whole stone.
