New Year. How will you celebrate it?

How do the people of Accrington and our friends around the globe celebrate the New Year? Do you have house parties, or do you venture out?

Lettie & I have deciced not to fall victim to the mercenary attitude of the town centre pubs this year. Even the hostelry we welcomed in the New Year at, last year, is having a "by ticket only" evening.

For us, the New Year will be greeted with friends, in the Stag, in Church. I'm sure we'll have a good time.

Re: New Year. How will you celebrate it?

i will start the night with beer and gradualy work through the rest of the night heading up to midight with more beer, after midnight i will be mostly drinking beer pausing only for a side helping of beer.

as for where i will be celebrating the new year it will most likely be somewhere that has an ample supply of yes you guessed it BEER :D

Re: New Year. How will you celebrate it?

I'm glad that we will be in the Stag. I've had my fill of New Year celebrations spent in the town centre and it is always a real anti-climax. The doorstaff in the pubs are always shaking their buckets for money, supposedly for charity but I know for a fact that the only charity that benefits is the bouncers and bar staff benevolent fund. The pubs are packed and the queues to get into them for the sake of a lousy watered down drink are ridiculous. I once had the pleasure of a draught half of Strongbow in one of our town centre pubs which resembled water and tasted like fizzy water. I complained and asked to see the landlord who, when threatened with trading standards, became most amenable and provided me with an untampered with bottled Strongbow free of charge.

For a change I will be somewhere friendly with decent beers, and I can't wait.....:D

I hate the nightmare of town centre new year festivities. I will be celebrating the New Year with my children at my friends which fortunately is only down the road so is staggering distance back to mine. I will be drinking plenty of alcohol to try and block out this miserable flippin cold I've managed to stave off over Christmas but has finally caught up with me!! Hope you all enjoy whatever it is you decide to do this evening :)

Re: New Year. How will you celebrate it?

I have been invited to go and see a Freddy Mercury tribute act this year.

That aside, like chav, I will be indulging freely in my customary anasthetic, supplied courtesy of Messers Gordon's and Co. for whom, may God be thanked.

At this juncture may I take the opportunity to wish all of our lovely members and visitors A Happy and Prosperous New Year.

The Traditions of News Year's day, chez Acrylic-Bob, are Two Co-Codamol dispersable every four hours and the New Year's Day Concert from Vienna (Radio 3, 10:15-12:40). There may be Port and Stilton in the afternoon, depending on how well the drugs are working.

I'm meeting the Chavster at the Stag at 8.30pm.

The plan was to go on a pub crawl in Ossy, then shake a tail feather in a club in Accrington.

Sadly the last time we did that was the night I ended up snogging the German Amazon Heidi, so we may just end up staying in the said hostelry.

Tomorrow Ma is cooking a big lamb lunch for the whole family.

I'm really looking forward to it, though seeing in the new year with an old Queen tribute band sounds fun too.

New Years Eve! This year is the first time Lucy and I have spent at home since we have known each other, usually we have friends round for drinks and a bit of a knees up but our friends in Accrington are otherwise occupied for reasons best known to themselves although a few have said they would ring us at midnight to exchange greetings. We are left I suppose with the option to go out on the town or stay in watch telly and have a bottle of fermented grape juice between us. Oh boy decisions decisions!

I will be tucked up well before midnight.....we have the tiny terror staying with and he is a notoriously early riser........so, no booze.....just a good book and a snooze. Whatever you are all doing.....be safe, but have fun!

My daughter and I will open a bottle of bubbly at midnight and listen to the fireworks going off as the area simulates WW3.

I will NOT be going to the recently gone-upmarket (read gone-expensive) pub along the road which is having a special evening with a 5 course meal at £75 a head. I believe they are having an Elvis impersonator. At that price I'd want Elvis himself - and John Lennon serving the drinks.

Happy New Year all.

I am doing the 'nice' thing' this year. Looking after my Grand daughter so my off spring can go out. So far there has been no fighting between her & my 7 yr old which is a welcome change. I think they are planning to be nice so I will let them stay up till midnight. So all you lot out and about tonight have a drink for me... coke that is as I don't drink :)

I spent an unusually quiet New Year's Eve with my 2 cats this year...no booze, no visitors, apart from me drunken daughter at 1am!!! It's been sheer bliss...:)

Had quite one the first one up here in 15 years and as I have work tomorrow not a lot of booze as I have work dayshift tomorrow. As I over did it on Boxing Day after work then went in pye eyed on the Tuesday dayshift it might be pushing it too far.

Here in our village, between Warrington and Altrincham, and it's called the Church Green (being as it's on the green next to the parish church).

I haven't heard how the night at the pub went but I am ready to murder 6 or 7 teenage lads who spent a couple of hours on our road, after midnight, fighting, shouting and being noisily sick after a party at a house opposite. If I can't kill them I might just kill the 16 year old girl whose party they'd been at - or her parents.

From the state they were in, I doubt they'll be conscious most of today. The girl was almost as bad, staggering around and screaming - but she'll be medicated OK, her mother's a doctor.

Re: New Year. How will you celebrate it?

The pair above me were at it until 8 this morning so as they are likely to be in bed revenge is sweet. Plenty of heavy bass music to make the walls vibrate (which they are) will give them a dose of their own medicine. Will be the same tonight with them and I am working tomorrow so another sleepless night ahead.
:( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Had a fabulous evening with friends at their bowling club. Brilliant act, and he certainly didn't cost £700! - I nearly fell off the chair laughing .... WHILST STILL REASONABLY SOBER!!

Got back late, stayed up with friends until about 3, and didn't get up until about noon the following day. Amazingly, was not particularly hung over!

Re: New Year. How will you celebrate it?

We spent the New Year in Center Parcs and had a fab time. 12 adults and 4 kids in two large lodges for three days. At the countdown to New Year I was stood at the side of a lake with a bottle of fizz being passed around and a warm glow inside. Then we watched the fireworks and headed back to the lodge.

It was a really good way to spend New Year and was possibly the first one I've enjoyed in many years. Plus, by going away for a few days all normal life stopped and I didn't think about regular stuff once - it was fab!
