Observer/Don't be a party pooper !

Just wondered if anybody had taken advantage of this competition running in our Observer last week ? They have teamed up with Beechams to offer a prize of kettle, 2 mugs and alarm clock to get you through the winter colds !
Not quite sure whether I find this extremely enterprising or just hilariousy amusing. Preferred they'd teamed up with some cosmetic company.
Do you think next will be Verruca plasters so you can still visit the gym or cold sore treatment to enable ya to still snog yer guy whilst out ??
I await with interest.

Have you been kissing men whilst they've been 'out' for the count?

We'll be reading about you in the Observer soon if you carry on like that.;)

:D Just need to find something that is earth shattering and life changing in Accy. Then again we might be better searching for a Dodo or a Giant Moa as might be earth shattering on its own.:D

Companies approach as us all the times asking us to run competitions.

We have a rule that prizes must be of a minimum value. Every competition we've run while I've been here has been very popular. We get many postal entries.

xXx

Yes, we run a pet idol contest and a baby contest etc, but again - people love them.

With regards to 'bonny stories' - we do our best ...and, as I always say, if you guys tell us what's going on we will look into it.

It would take more than a kettle and Beechams Cold Cure to get me through the winter......a trip to Lanzarote might just do it......! Only joking Vitty.
Do the Observer want a travel writer...? I'd be up for that one.....except they would probably send me to Rawtenstall!

Which people?

What percentage of people vote compared to your circulation figures?

Let's have a vote on here, and see how many of us 'love' the bonny baby/toddler/pets competions?

I'm not having a go at you Vitty, unlike that sneaky Dillon, just interested about how many people really do like them.

Re: Observer/Don't be a party pooper !

Well, with competitions...the first person into the office on a Monday will find anything from 30-150 letters in total for competitions, and we have two running at once.

It's slightly less bulky in the post from Tuesday to Friday, maybe 20-100. So an approximate gues of between 110 - 550 entries a week.

With the pet idol, we got hundreds of entries, and thousands of votes. We get 15,000+ readers a week, so it is a justified competition to run.

And the baby contest, which is just starting. Though I have no figures (because I wasn't here the lasttime we ran it), I am told it is our most popular competition.

Hope that helps.

How many hundreds, so we could work out a percentage of 15,000 readers?

The greater majority might loath it as much as Mr Angry.;)

Be best to give them till monday to do the maths. It will take the weekend for them to get enough fingers and toes together. ;)

Let's keep it friendly, people :)

Anyway, you'll be glad to know Mr Angry won't be around for much longer.

Ooooh don't tell me that his boiling blood is going to kill him......at long last!

I have always thought that this was a criminal waste of column inches.

Does this mean a vacancy? is it up for grabs? could I, often referred to on accyweb as one of the more lovable and enlightened contributers take this opportunity to fill your space?

I would also be available if you so wished to handle any of the tit-bits that may come across your desk.

Pub, restaurant butty shop and take away reviews could be fitted into my free time at no charge (except of course travel, clothing and general expenses, nothing extravagent I'm not a councillor).
