Re: Holiday information

Visited Bhopal 6 years back but can't really advise as I stayed with a mate out there who was teaching English. I found the experience eye opening and quite humbling, especially after visiting the gas plant.

As for Sri Lanka I can't recommend it enough, it was wonderful, definitely if you can vist Polunawara and Anaradhapura. Kandy is also wonderful, but make sure you see Sigiriya and climb the rock worth every palpatation and scary second.

Enjpoy it.

Hi, visited South India about 3yrs ago. Twice in fact which shows how much I liked it. Still want to return and see Goa & Kerala and eventually rent and stay there 3+months a year. Also want to visit Sri Lanka soon.

1st time in October for 4weeks, flew into Bangalore and did an anti-clockwise tour via Mysore (festival), Western Gats (Madikeri), Ooty, Ramaswarem, Madurai, Trichy, Thanjavur and back.

Returned the following January for another 4weeks. Flew into Chennai but based in Bangalore again. Visited temple locations to the East as far as Pondicherry and Mamallapuram.

Travelled by train a lot, very convenient and cheap. Air-con and sleepers. Buy a timetable asap. Hire a taxi and driver for 1000r/day (£15).

One of my best friends is from Sri Lanka, and from all reports it's absolutely glorious. My son and his partner went last Summer, and they loved it. His partner has been several times before, so it must be okay because she's fussy!

By the way my sis says if you do go to india dont go on one of these organised trips that costs you £1500 for 10 days. Organise it yourself and it wont cost as much and bargain as much as you can.

Re: Holiday information

Your quite right about costs. My wife and I went for 4weeks independantly. It costed us about £500 each for flights and £500 for both of us to cover travel, accomodation, meals and everything!

This was sometime-ago when 66r to the pound. It's now 69r to the pound.

Think 50p to 1.50p for a meal; £2.00 to £6.00 for a double room ensuite, air-con or sleeper trains at ridiculous prices.
