What it means to be British.

What does it mean to you to be British? I think the following answer to a survey may hit the nail on the head..:)

One of the British national daily newspapers is asking readers "what it means to be British?" Some of the emails are hilarious but this is one from a chap in Switzerland...

Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, and then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV. And the most British thing of all? Suspicion of anything foreign. :D

So true, even the lovely cup of tea that all these people claim to be very british (nothing like a good cuppa!)

Tea grown in sheffield? No tea grown in India!!!

The great old english brekkie- meat gathered from all over the place!!

Our royal family?- The prince of Wales?-- Wales/English nope i dont think so.

the search is actually harder that thought!!!

If the lineage of the royal family was as channel 4 tried to point out a while back would be in the hands of an Aussie thanks to infidelity at the time of Edward the IV. He was alledgedly illegitimate and the true heir to the throne would be the Earl of Louden as a direct Plantagent desendent.

You can add to the list - having a German Royal Family!

Re: What it means to be British.

But if they took the male surname then it would have changed to Battenburg wouldn't it? Wasn't Philip a Mountbatten and that name was changed from Battenburg.

Re: What it means to be British.

They seem to have their own set of rules. There is proberly more european royalty blood flowing through them than "British" so I supose in a way they are as multicutural as the rest of the country.
