who was offended by corrie?
not that i watch it but who was offended by the comments made by a charachter about sunita livin like "white trash"
and why? |
Re: who was offended by corrie?
When? Yesterday? Missed that.:(
It's only offensive because it's soooo American. White trash/poor white trash/trailer park trash. |
Re: who was offended by corrie?
I didn't watch it. Haven't watched it for years. I hate the term "white trash" though. Classifying anyone as trash is offensive. People are human beings whatever their class or status or poverty etc.

Re: who was offended by corrie?
Who was the first black character in Corrie?
I remember Ray Langton left Deidre for a black girl, who incidentally starred in BBC1's Angels a few years earlier. It was about 1976. Good I must have been a sad ten year old.:) |

I believe they have been reported to the broadcasting standards commitee for it.
Just think what the uproar would have been if it had been racist against blacks as opposed to being racist against whites. |
Re: who was offended by corrie?
I was watching a film the other night and 2 black blokes were calling each other nigger. I bet no-one complained about that. What is the problem?
|
Re: who was offended by corrie?
I didn't even notice it - and I was watching the programme. Reading about it next day in the papers I just thought, "Well he would say that, wouldn't he?" For God's sake, what a fuss about nothing at all.

Re: who was offended by corrie?
It's just another way for the PC brigade to stir up trouble. I like people of all creeds and colours, there are also people of the same & or different creeds and colours I don't like.... because you can't like everybody all of the time.
|
Re: who was offended by corrie?
comments are all about why the comment was made, as neil pointed out two black guys can call each other nigger and nothings made of it, ozzys call us pomms and nothings made of it cos nothings meant by it. but when your called a dirty pomm, then it tends to have a racial intent. It's where how and to who it's said not just what is said. There's banter and there's racism.
I don't agree with all this pc rubbish, most of the so called victims of racism don't agree with the ludicrous rules anyway. In fact a lot of the are creating racism where there was non to start with by suggesting that there is racism there. BUT by what's been said here. it sounds like corrie have gone to close to the edge. |
Re: who was offended by corrie?
I weren't offended at all, it went in one ear and out the other!
|
Re: who was offended by corrie?
Im more offended by the fact that if it was a white person referring to someone as a nigger serious action would have been taken.and probably the number of complaints would have been in their thousands rather than the hundreds in this case.
|
Re: who was offended by corrie?
I took exception to that comment by Sunita's brother plain and simply because if the boot had been on the other foot and the comment had been aimed at Asians, let alone to call them trash as well, then I'm sure the you must all realise that the s**t would have definately hit the fan big time.

Sorry, Granny thought of Jack in his nuddy doesn't excite me at all, although funny storyline. :) |
Re: who was offended by corrie?
I'm actually glad corrie is getting a dose of reality. This is a soap supposedly a social commentary set in Manchester remember...the locals arent exactly all politically correct.
Finally it's highlighting some other issues apart from the 133rd love triangle... |
Re: who was offended by corrie?
