Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Got a camera but never used it in the last 6 months due to getting a new TV set up and couldnt be bothered going through the rigmarole of setting it all up. Decided to put it on today to show a neighbour that it wasnt a dummy camera. Within seconds of putting it on we had to hit the record button.
Caught the neighbours kids ( who never do anything wrong by the way in their parents eyes) kicking cars and letting my neighbours tyres down. Called the police who came within the hour and gave the kids the best telling off they have ever had. :D :D :D They tried to deny it was them untill the police told each child which tyre they had done and that it was all on tape and she had watched it. The camera even picked up the sound of air being released from the tyres. I think they all thought it was a dummy camera as well ...... wonder if they will start to behave themselves now, as when the police went they all stood in the middle of the road gaping at the camera. Ill probably wake up in the morning having to report it stolen ....:D |
Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Feels good when it works and has actually proved usefull.

Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Excellent, I like hearing good things about CCTV. I think you will find you need a sign up stating you are recording the public. If not you are probably breaking the law, but who cares you caught 'em :D

Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Got a sign up but the sun has faded it ... :D
Young lad keeps on coming to his front door and looking over at the camera now :p |
Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Only if it's being recorded. If it's recording a public place your supposed to be registered and have a reason for the system and have signs up and stop any joe blogs from viewing it. bla bla. As long as it's not looking in someone’s window though I can't see a problem unless someone stirs it up. I was told a story of a guy who installed a pan tilt and zoom camera to watch his boat which was on the canal across a piece of common land from his house. he recorded on to a hard drive, deleted it but later found out his boat had been vandalised. He took it to a cctv specialist to see if the could recover it which they did. Problem was he could use it as evidence, because also on the same recording, and probably the reason why it was deleted, was images of a zoom in to a house window over the other side of the canal and a young lady getting changed. He could get in to serious trouble for what he's doing plus he never got the culprits that vandalised the boat.

Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Awwww the naughty man :D
My camera is aimed in my garden and the turning bay on the road. Ive had cctv camera's for about 6 years now and the police are fully aware i have them. It was on their recomendation that i installed them. The police woman who came yesterday had no problem with the angle it is aimed at and had some great fun with the kids when thet denied doing what they had done. |
Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Well, if they recomended you do, and I know they do, they should have gave you a leaflet with that blurb on on that link. Thats naughty of them. I don't really think that police care unless they recieve complaints, such as it watching someones window, by the sounds of it you don't record unless you have reason to, and it's not as if its going to be used in court is it.
|
Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
No, ive never needed to use anything in court. They couldnt do as my video isnt one of those who date stamps when you are recording. Its more as a detterent really.
I had a window put through for no reason shortly after i moved into this flat so the cameras was re-installed and its been peacefull ever since. We are having problems with local young kids kicking balls against the cars. Now they know the camera is real i hope they will stop. Also since re-installing the camera it has stopped car theives using our street as a dumping patch. We also had one lad that regular roared down at speeds of 50mph + and using the turning point to do handbrake turns. That has stopped too . :D |
Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Did you know we have more cctv cameras in this country than any other in the world. City centre streets, most town centre streets even villages, shopping centres, shops, garages, hospitals, police stations, factories, homes. Not forgetting buses, taxis, trains, police cars and hgv's.

Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
I am to a point. It's what happend to the recordings that bothers me. I don't expect to walk down town and have a load of people on the internet watching me via a web cam in the town centre.

Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
but isnt it a shame now to say the state of the community is such that we all feel as if we req our own private cctv systems?
ps nice one jimmi!! |
Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Is it such a state that we feel the need, or has it always been in a state but we can now afford the technology to set it up?
|
Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...

cctv is only part of whats happening... did you also know that they plan to fit gps units to new cars as from 2009? this will enable the government and police to track a vehicle and monitor speed etc.... now thats more worrying!
|
Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Another thing i haven't mentioned(going off on a tangent here!) apnr cameras... these are replacing what we all know as gatso cameras and gatsoII cameras... More discreet and harder to spot....

Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
thats so tru spudge... In south america they already insert a mini gps tag on serious offenders under the skin so it can't be removed! it started trialing last summer. Any mobile can be located too... it can be triangulated to with a 10 metre radius..

Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
Don't forget that while you are watching kids vandalise your cars on CCTV, some perv might be recording your children playing out for less noble motives.

Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
just so everyone knows the rules on installing cctv on your own property. If the image contains any other persons property or captures any public view you need to get permission to have it... RIPA are the main body governing this and you also need to contact the informational commissioner for authorisation.. If anyone wants a copy of what you may have recorded which they can legally ask for they must pay you for access to it.. usually around a tenner... you can request a copy of the image from a bank for any footage you were in but you would have to say why and pay a tenner...

Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
you are legally allowed to request for any captured image of yourself from anywhere in its raw format. They cannot supply it you in any other format without your consent.. hope this helps you to understand how the law stands on this topic...
|
Re: Dont You Just Love CCTV ...
They must ask why, AND it has to be relevant to why the system was installed. For example a crime has been commited and the system was fitted to detect crimes being commited. They have the right to refuse if they feel the reason is not genuine. CCTV images are not meant for public entertainment and are not supposed to be viewable by joe blogs. As I've said they might turn a blind eye but missuse it for something that gets a complaint made against you and the law is on their side.
