call me synical but...
just watching the news and they are doing a segment on how the most popular present this year at xmas was to send a goat to a starving village
now here where my problem is with this sort of thing the girl who was bought the gift of a goat was filmed with her card which contained a picture of a white goat with black lower legs yet when they flew her out to rohanda to meet her goat the goat she was parading around was jet black with a bit of white on its lower legs for all we know oxfam may be simply selling pictures of goats and when people go out there to see their goat they get handed any goat thats to hand and say here you go this is what your money bought dont get me wrong i think its a good idea in principle but the scheme is so open to abuse it makes me wonder how many people who think they are doing a good thing are been sold the same goat over and over again ime not bad mouthing oxfam either because i am pretty sure the people high up in the company deserve their bentley cars paid for by money donated to help the starving instead of using the money donated to them to help others maybe with it been xmas they simply ate the white goat and didnt have the heart to tell the 15 year old girl what hadhappened to her little billy :) |

Hi synical butt.
|
Re: call me synical but...
They probably ate the original donkey on Christmas day, so had to find another. After all what is the chance that the sender of the donkey is actually stupid enough to want to go and meet it?

Re: call me synical but...

*L*
we get loads of stuff like this in islam and i think wait a min is that OUR goat or some animal they've got off the net? about a yr ago we had some guys come around sayin they were raising cash for an orphanage in afganistan. normally its like ok here's a quid two b on ur way but these guys were prepared - presentation pics and all sorts. mom fell for it hook line and sinker. they even had loads of pics of kids - pass port size and they wud give u one sayin that is the kid ur cash is goin to. mom was dead impressed so she gave i think 140 or sommet for two kids to b clothed, fed and sheltered in this place. she told my aunt and my aunt who was recovering after a breast cancer op wanted to do her bit and she gave the same amount. again nice lil pics of the kids etc all fine adn good 6 months later we had a dci come in sayin it was all a scam and they'd been pocketin the cash etc and they got prosecuted. but i was thinkin bloody hell that is one deeply prepared scam. i wud've just told em to go away as i needed the cash for my ipod... :D |
Re: call me synical but...
there is a lot of proffit to be made out of other peoples misfortune its just havingthe cheeck to do it
|
Re: call me synical but...
That's an absolutely appalling scam mani because with all the photos and everything that's just the sort of thing that would make me want to help too. How do people like that live with themselves, making money out of the misfortune of others!

Re: call me synical but...
I think that anyone coming to the door should be able to prove charity collections by orviding a registered charity number so you can check up on them before you hand over any cash, thus preventing some of the scams out there. There also must be other ways out there to stop people doing these sort of things.

There we go then, these people rely on our doations to keep them going, but i do suppose there are other ways to collect the money othere thatn knocking on doors.

Re: call me synical but...
What makes you think that the money you give ever gets to those that need it? We have hand links on here before about corruption in big international charities. I think is was Busman who posted about it. It puts you off donating when you realise the top management are driving Rolls Royce cars paid for by your donations.
