well i ask you!!!!
well i ask you, i went out for lunch today with entwisi & sarah, we decided to try the CALDER.....we walked in all confident & looking forward to enjoying our lunch .......only to be told that we could not stay (WHAT I THOUGHT)....sorry the waiter said but you can't come in here with trakkie's on so i looked at entwisi stupidly....then down at his trousers & walked out with him .honest i didn't realize he had trakkies on , so off we went to the NAKED PLATE & had a great lunch , we were all flabbergasted,i certainly can tell you i will never go in there again .

Re: well i ask you!!!!
id expect that from a nightclub but not a pub! thats bad!
|
Re: well i ask you!!!!
i wouldn't care he looked quite smart they are cream pants & were immaculate even though he'd been walking up the coppice.
stupid idea if you ask me they will loose a lot of custom with that & not letting children in for meals either. |
Re: well i ask you!!!!
Imagine turning away customers so soon after openeing for business. They must be making a lot of money to be able to do that. Would they turn away a football player from Rovers if he had entered in a track suit?
|
Re: well i ask you!!!!
sounds like they have lost some good customers... its not good for customer relations is it...ITS THEIR LOSS!

Re: well i ask you!!!!
There was a disabled woman in the Observer who had the same treatment the other week.
Never have lunch with Chavs and hoodies like Sarah and Entwisi, is the moral here I think.;) |
Re: well i ask you!!!!
Garinda
I dont think it was Sarah or Entwisi that was the problem you should have seen the shoes mez was wearing hehe:o i will keep my head down for a while:signntme: |
Re: well i ask you!!!!
Ooooh MIck, you're a braveboy. I suspect you're going to be in a spot of bother now. Good luck with that.

Re: well i ask you!!!!
no trackies allowed...?
well thats 90% of accringtons population not getting served :D |
Re: well i ask you!!!!
well at least i had shoes on .....not trainers !!!!!
|
Re: well i ask you!!!!
It sounds like a good idea to me. At least you will be able to enjoy a meal without the likes of Ian lowering the tone of the place :D
|
Re: well i ask you!!!!
The thing was I was only wearing them because the scar from my appendix op has become inflamed so I can't wear jeans as it aggravates it. As Mez said, they are 'smart' tracksuit bottoms, no garish labels or anything. In fact they are closer to rohan style than a tracksuit. Also, I was in there about a fortnight ago wearing exactly the same trousers and was served without question by the manager
I can understand them wanting to have a dress code in the evening but as it stands, I was dressed reasonably smartly and couldn't go in yet if I was in working jeans full of god knows what I'd be allowed in! It wasn't like we looked like rabble rousers now did we? |
Re: well i ask you!!!!
lol @ mick about mez's shoes ! ya brave boy you !

Re: well i ask you!!!!
Maybe the dress code depends on what side of the bed the manger got out of on that particular day.
|
Re: well i ask you!!!!
You sure he said "trakkies" and not "trekkies"?
|
Re: well i ask you!!!!
They had the waiters turning away customers???? I've never heard of anything so absurd in my life, it has to be accrington! Not that I'll ever go in that place ever again anyway - pile of pants, rubbish pub.

Re: well i ask you!!!!
I worked in one posh school, the fashion there was smart suit and trainers. It is the fashion. They should get their act together.
|
Re: well i ask you!!!!
I had exactly the same problem, they refused me entry because i had the wrong TYPE of shoes on! PATHETIC!!!! :not_ripe:
|
Re: well i ask you!!!!
It's their problem. It's your custom they are losing. Might be idea to go in in 'posh' shoes and a bag. Get your meal go to the lav with bag. Change shoes. Go back to table, then wait!!
|
Re: well i ask you!!!!
Yeah good idea, best thing about it was that one of my pals went in the following night with exactly the same shoes on!!!!!

Re: well i ask you!!!!
does too.nothing wrong with smart casuals. They're saying anything that looks like trackies can't be smart casual, even if they do look smart.
|
Re: well i ask you!!!!
If they want to be seen as upmaketish they picked the wrong place.

We all know possibly that they are hoping to attract a more 'civilised' clientele ... however, someone in pair of designer trousers is just as likely to smash you over the head with a bottle as designer trainers wearers. Or are they .. perhaps wouldn't wish to mark their trousers ? Think perhaps during the day looking for business people at work who will spend more on their expense accounts? The group ( ? and Jones ?) must have spent lots of cash surveying this issue on dress code. Wonder how the other pubs in their chain survive ? Would be interesting to get their point of view on this question. Do they have a 'warning' on the door before you enter? as sure Mez and Co. were embarrased too by their expultion from these premises, must have made you feel lower than low, eh ? |
Re: well i ask you!!!!
This group have four diferent chains and the only ones I have been in are in Hanley. They may want smarter clientel but the ones I visited in the evening were just as rough even if most had shirt and tie's on. These had a dress code warning but it was only small and as a result I had to go back to the hotel and change out of jeans and trainers. Alls I wanted was a meal and bear after a 10 hour shift and to unwind. If they want a dress cde then fine enforce it in the evening not at lunch time as they are turning people away who might have been on early shift and want to relax. Just because they are not attired correctly does not mean they are going to misbehave or not spend money. It stinks of stereo typing to me!

Re: well i ask you!!!!
Yeh, not disagreeing Spuggie, just thought it would be interesting to see on what reports from their other establishments/consultants they are basing this policy. Will be some financial reason somewhere, etc. Looked at the Observer report re. the disabled lady and The Calder spokeswoman only stated re. better clientele etc., Just verbally spilling out what she had been trained to say.
