60% think it's a Labour Council
That's right, a poll was done in Accrington and over 60% of the people polled thought that the current Council was Labour controlled. Whereas, in fact, we have had 6 years of Conservative control.
We've got a tough battle on our hands in May if people think that all the current problems in the area are our fault to start off with. |
Re: 60% think it's a Labour Council
Coming from a conservative, people like mr britcliff shouldn't be councilers :(

Re: 60% think it's a Labour Council
60% of how many?
I wasn't asked....was anyone else? Yet another 'Politicians Statistic' by definition a false statement made to either get some of that oh so juicy spin we all love in the forefront or to cover their back incase of a precedented failure. Been to see any palm readers/fortune tellers lately, Gayle? only joshing :D |
Re: 60% think it's a Labour Council
Anyway the Labour government of today have become so absurdly Conservative it is understandable that people are confused. The Labour of 30/40 years ago now is merely a distant memory of a short stint of straight forward thinking from a government.

Re: 60% think it's a Labour Council
What really cheeses me off is the fact that our council taxes are risen year by year, and seem to be getting less for our money!
They introduced the wheelie bins on a once a fortnightly basis, obviously saving money on wages of manpower, diesiel, road tax, overtime and so on and so fourth. My aunty lives in an eleveted terraced house(only 5 steps), and she left her recycling bin on the garden(well within reaching distance of the street)... next thing she got a caution and the threat of a thousand pound fine for doing what she thought was helping the environment(not to mention owt thats worth owt alu, steel, paper n glass)...She was upset with the wording that(as she thought) made her out to be a criminal! Is someboby getting paid a weekly wage for upsetting folk where common sense should be the way forward on this matter. |
Re: 60% think it's a Labour Council
Not many people take an interest in local or national politics anymore. They all 'pee in same pot' so whats the point, is the general concensus. You usually find that if the Government is Labour the local council is Conservative and vice versa. What really annoys me is the people who don't vote, but moan about the state of affairs, as in my eyes if you don't vote you have no right to complain about anything political!

Re: 60% think it's a Labour Council
I agree Neil, although the bin men only collect fortnightly they also collect recyclable stuff on the opposite week, hence there is still a weekly collection. So I can't actually see were any money is being saved.

Re: 60% think it's a Labour Council
what i was trying to say was, the council are encouraging us to recycle for the sake of the 'environment' when on the other hand they are letting bin wagons from manchester and other areas use hyndburn as their dumping ground!
Anotherthing, have we been told of the revenue ammased from the sale of the aluminium, paper, glass and plastic?  |
