Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

Thanks to the Local Community Network Fund, Oswaldtwistle Players have received £3,200 to set up a youth drama group.

We haven't decided how exactly it will work at the moment but I would be interested in hearing from anyone 16 and under who would like to get involved. Also, would like to hear from parents/guardians who would like to volunteer to help out at rehearsals and show week.

PM me if you're interested.

Well done Gayle, obviously will help when I can .. love to teach these star studded brats how to act :D Whoops. Would be a pleasure to pass on my wealth of experience to these aspiring actors :)

Well considering your 34 you wouldnt be welcome to join anyway =) lol. We already have 30-40 members, so were not desperate, just if anyone fancies it =)

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

will ask our boys , will let you know Gayle. I would also be interested in helping out. Sounds like fun. Keep me posted.

Well done on the funding to X I also have CRB clearance which may help.

Gayle 31-03-2006 13:10

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

That's great to know Romps - thanks. Yes, will definitely call on you.

The cheque arrived from LNF yesterday so we're going to be off and running soon.

Also, in answer to Tomz - Oswaldtwistle Players will be providing drama experiences, not musicals, so there is room for both in the same area.

tomz 31-03-2006 13:48

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

The Buddies do 'drama'. Aswell as musicals. In other words, there is drama/acting within the musicals The Buddies do. Plus, they do a variety show night which also provides drama experiences. I will look forward to coming to see one of your shows, perhaps I could write a review on it, or perhaps I could be biased and write them a bad review as I dont like 'drama experiences'... like someone wrote a biased review last year as they didnt like musicals... cant remember who though.... hmmmm....

Gayle 31-03-2006 14:00

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

It was not a biased review - it was a review based on 20 years experience of local amateur dramatics. A lot of people got riled by that review and fair enough but at no point did I criticise any of the young people involved - I said many times throughout the review that they did the best they could with the material. I stressed that I didn't think that light opera was suited to that group.

I will also stress that I gave Buddies an incredibly brilliant review for the show they did before that - Oklahoma - because it was an excellent show. If you want people to come and review your shows then you have to accept that they will not give everything a good review. I could have picked out just the good bits from the last show but what would be the point - I gave a fair and balanced review of the show. If you only ever got good reviews how would you know if the reviewer was being genuine.

I will say that Oklahoma was excellent and you can know I meant it but the last one was not to the same standard so you shouldn't expect the same sort of glowing review.

Reviews hurt if they're not complimentary - I know that because I've also had 'bad' ones in the past - but you should never dwell on them just learn from them.

tomz 31-03-2006 14:07

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

If its 'Robin Hood & The Prince Of Sherwood' what The Buddies did your refering too, then how anyone could ever of given that a bad review is beyond me. I dont know if anyone watched the show, but 3 out of the 4 nights it was on, it was a sell out. I watched it every night and it was fantastic. One of the best Ameture productions ive seen so far. And Im not suprised a lot of people were appauled at the review. It wasnt right Gayle im sorry. I dont know what you were thinking the night you watched, but it really wasnt right.

Gayle 31-03-2006 14:08

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

It wasn't Robin Hood it was a Light Opera thing - Pirates of Penzance.

I was banned from coming to review any more shows after I reviewed Pirates.

tomz 31-03-2006 14:11

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

It was the Adults Group who did the Pirates of Penzance, thats the one you reviewed.

Or are you talking about when The Buddies (youth group) did it earlier this month?

And I acknowledged you were banned from coming to the shows. Because many in the society do actually believe you are biased, coming from the Ossy Players group. Also, Oliver was a sell out every night, so you werent given the opportunity to have a ticket.

Gayle 31-03-2006 14:16

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

Then it wasn't Pirates - I honestly can't remember - it was a Light Opera thing and it was the year after Oklahoma.

There is no competition between Oswaldtwistle Players and Accrington Theatre Group - we do drama you do musicals - there is more than enough space for both of us in the area. I was not biased and gave both the adult group and the youth group many good reviews.

tomz 31-03-2006 14:18

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

Yeah I thought so. It was actually Robin Hood by The Buddies which you gained criticism after rewiewing. And you were banned from the shows after Robin Hood. That was the year after Oklahoma.

Gayle 31-03-2006 14:21

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

It was NOT Robin Hood, see even you can't remember it! It was a Gilbert and Sullivan light opera thing.

Gayle 31-03-2006 14:22

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

I've just looked on the Accrington Theatre Group website and it was HMS Pinafore!

tomz 31-03-2006 14:24

Re: Oswaldtwistle Player's Youth Group

Okay then. I dont think it was one of their best to be honest. But I still think your biased. And I cant wait to come and see Ossy Players.

tomz 31-03-2006 14:25

Actually, after looking at the dates on your performance, I cant attend im afraid, ive already got three ameture shows to attend that week.

Shame you can't come to see our play.

Since Mrs Knight is only a few months older than me I don't think I can qualify as her 'toyboy.'

Plus we agree to disagree on lots of issues, though I do think her enthusiasm is the shot in the arm that local politics can do with, especially if she can pull off a coup d'etat and unseat the leader of the council in the elections in May.:)

It does strike me that your time would be better spent back at school rather than nicking off and fooling around on here attempting to insult upstanding stalwarts of the local internet community, such as Garinda.

Get back to your A levels, young man. You never know...with luck, you might even get a couple of Grade 'D's this summer.

What is sad is that as a taxpayer I am having to contribute to the costs of your education. Such a waste of money.

Reverting back to the original thread, as a member of both groups, can I just point out that the reason the Theatre Group chose Oiver is that they could not cast their original choice >> and this was not the Buddies production. The Buddies and Oliver obtained bookings mearly on the backs of attendances by the parents, schools, friends etc., purely because there are young people involved with a large cast, and not due initially on the merit of its productions, albeit they are always extemely noteworthy.
The theatre group are well aware of this.

As we have discussed before, you have to accept criticism and Gayle's was constructive from which you should take note and learn, upsetting I know, but you definitely improve on the point the next time >>> I certainly did try (I hope).

Also, there is a very wide gap between the way dialogue is handled in plays as against musicals ... so Ossie Players are offering their experience in an entirely different area here.

Anyway folks, the Theatre Group's next production should help their coffers ... The Full Monty ! (although not quite as full as you may anticipate) .. so get your tickets early.. ;)

The fact that you say her opinion is biased, and completely wrong yet you don't even know which production she gayle reviewed AND then later backtrack saying it wasn't the best speaks volumes about you tomz. You should think then comment.

Correct, It is the Full Monty. But as a member of the society. I think you should know that its all still supposed to be a bit 'hush hush'. And there is time to change shows yet, as Camelot was last years original show, but was changed at a later date to Oliver. So you never know with Accy Theatre Group, they may just change their mind last minute. And therefore Full Monty shouldnt be really advertised that much ;)

Why do you think personal insults are neccesary? I may disagree with Tories in my family, but they wouldn't speak like you are doing.

No sweat Tomz, just between you and me and Accyweb has only 3,000 registered members. :D Know what you mean though, they may well have difficulty in the casting

Thought would be more in trouble with Gayle for mentioning another production on her thread .... sorreeee Gayle.

If you are as keen on the performing arts as you make out then maybe you should be a little more supportive of the other drama groups in the area and not diss their attempts;Ossy Players will no doubt put their funding to very good use and you can't really dismiss their next production out of hand without having seen it or read the script.

You really are an eloquent young man aren't you? Such an expansive vocabulary too;it's a shame the phrase "give it up" doesn't appear in there!

Says the man who recently described Tories as 'a shower of sh1te' then edited it to read 'bunch of incompetents'.

Leave the lad alone now folks .. sure he would be welcome at Ossie players if he wished to learn more ... certainly has all the right characteristics for acting: confidence, passion, high-spirits, cheek, controversial, aggressionsiveness, egotistical, self-opinionated etc., etc., etc., certainly grabbed your attention .. yes, surely a great performer in the making. :D

Well, progress, we've appointed a youth worker to run this project professional. He's a guy with lots of talent and experience from within our own ranks so ideal for the gig.

I'm going to sort out a rehearsal space soon and then send out a press release. Initially to limit numbers a bit we're going to keep to the 11 - 16 age range but that shouldn't stop anyone older or younger getting in touch just in case we don't get enough takers.

We're only going to be able to take 30 young people on the project initially and they're going to have to send us their names in writing i.e. a short letter of interest. If we get a higher level of interest than that then we're going to have to rethink.

More news to follow soon with a press release being sent out to the local papers at the end of April.
