Its So Sad!
I was given a website tonight and after viewing, thought long and hard as to whether I should post it. In doing so, I should like to point out that I do not condone such activity and found it sad and upsetting to watch.
The latest craze amonst teenagers is to inflict pain and physical damage to themselves and others - and to video it! CLICK HERE If you decide to view, be prepared for the worst! From this site, there are links to many other sites all of a similar nature :eek: The reason for me finally deciding to put this link on is because it originated (or is well used) from the youth of Darwen, I hope your sons/daughters/relatives are not the "stars" of these sick vids! What makes teenagers do this to themselves? I spent my life trying to keep myself intact (in one piece, not virginal:) ) but they seem hellbent on killing themselves. |

The whole point of these kids doing this is for the publicity.. the more the publicity the more it spreads.. whatever the intention of this post. it is giving them the free publicity they crave and the whole reason for doing.. Its spreadin it.

Anyone with kids in the age range of the clips "stars" should watch this as it could be someone they know. The reality they live in and enjoy is Donald Ducked. I have been on fire due to an accident though only my coat and pride were burnt but this is well as dumb as it comes.

Wheres the limit.. do we ADVERTISE everyhting thats bad for children so responsible parents can look after them? responsible parents shouldnt need you to advertise and help publicise such a site to be a good parent.. they should be able to manage that without you helping this craze..

As a parent and with relations in the age bracket shown yes it should be shown especially to parents of local youths who are involved ormight become involved.

Everyone who visits the site, feeds there ego. they will know how many visits they are getting and will consider the site a success with the extra traffic busman is sending there way.
Simple fact is. your advertising the site for them and they are getting the extra visitors they want. They will think its a success and want to add more stuff to it. But hey. dont listen to me :) |

It's beyond me why inflicting harm on themselves or on others has become such a popular pastime but I was thinking about some of those videos which get sent up to "You've been framed" and the like. There are an awful lot of those which I don't find funny at all. They seem to entertain by showing people suffering injuries and yet adults laugh at them so perhaps it shouldn't surprise me that kids try to go one better.

yes the ones where kids fall over and the parents just watch.. some of them are very unfunny and it makes me wonder... I ahvent watched the program in ages.. too many not funny and too many setup..

When Busman asked me if I had deducted karma I hadn't - I subsequently did.
I believe I called you naive, I don't know that I insulted your kids. That was not my intention. There is one lad who features on this website whose parents thought he was an angel who never did anything wrong. That has now proved not to be true. He is there in glorious technicolour and I feel personally that if one of my children was doing something like this then I would rather have the opportunity of finding out about it than remaining in ignorance. By finding out about it maybe I'd then have a chance to do something about it. If they were doing this and I didn't know then they would just carry on and maybe end up killing themselves or someone else. They may not be your kids, they may not be my kids but they sure as eggs is eggs are somebody's kids and I think remaining in ignorance and pretending it isn't happening gives them more scope to carry on than being aware and showing the site to other responsible adults who may recognize a child they know. Does that make any more sense to you now? I don't know how I can explain it any better than that. |

What I mean is it's rubbish , the video clips, the content, it's not something that I'd find interesting to watch and id not want to watch it just to find out what OUR kids are up to, as in the kids in society, which i think we all have at least a slight responsibility towards, to not show bad examples to and to not let do bad things if we see them doing so. I haven't got kids. The thought of what the future holds is partly why I never have had any. And I don't watch you've been framed, or kirsty , i dont watch what doesn't interest me or entertain me, I've spent enough years like a zombie watching stuff that didn't just for the sake of watching it.

'You've Been Framed' was funny in the beginning and I like the animal ones but too many are dangerous stunts which have obviously been set up. Wasn't it originally claimed that the Tango ads were responsible for this sort of behaviour in children? The ones where a big orange guy "tangoed" people.

Deduction of Karma - but has the annonymous deducter thought it through? Can he or she stand up and say that they feel it is better that parents are better off being ignorant of what their children are doing, I called Kipax a ****** for two reasons! Firstly, because he deducted karma points within minutes of my posting - and certainly before he had thought it through, and secondly because he has held a grudge against myself and Willow from an earlier thread and despite promising to leave and never return, the ****** came back! Seriously, how can you get so aggrieved over what I called Kipax just because I highlighted the fact that OUR local kids are self-harming themselves? I don't give a fig what you, Mr. Annonymous (or Kipax) think, I want to tell parents out there what is happening in the real world! I want a serious discussion on this subject so IF you feel that you want to have a go at me, please use the P.M. facility rather than sidetrack my thread! Thank you. |

reminds me of when i was at school and they gave those tufty badges out, all the kids were pushin the pin through the first layers of skin on their thumbs. I still ain't worked out why they thought it was so good to do. I never get the point.
but anyway, i'll pretend i've watched it, so now what as a responsible parent do I do, billy goes out with his mates in an evening, do i lock him in his bedroom? |

No, of course not MH. We can't lock our kids up or even follow them around all day so that we know exactly where they are and what they are doing. Mine leave for school at 8am and I see them again in the evening. This week the earliest I see Mimi is about 6:30 because she's doing work experience and then gets picked up from there at 5 o'clock and goes off for an hour to a class/study group and is then delivered home.
Most of us trust that our kids are where they say they are - but it's a sign of the times that schools are aware that a lot of children set off for school in the morning, even get there for the register and then beggar off for the day. Mimi noticed that when they make their own way to the Sports Centre once a week some of the kids don't bother and decide to 'go shopping' instead. Perhaps some of the parents of those on the website don't give a flying fig what their children are up to, but maybe some of them are under the misapprehension that their children are where they think they are and doing what they think they are doing and seeing them on this site would come as a bit of a shock. They are the ones who would probably welcome the revelation so they could do something about it. Ignorance of a situation may well be bliss but it doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. To think my Granny used to worry about me being 'up on't coits' . She'd have kittens if she knew what some kids do these days. |

Ahhh, got you, you want the parents of the kids on the video to spot them. well, I suppose theres a chance, but aren't some of them on their with their parents? and some wouldn't care anyway, but I see where your comin from now.

the self mutilating teenagers are called emo
these types feel underappreciated and a) want attention b) spread messages c) use self mutilation as a way to take out the pain of daily life until they can drink and some parents know about their childrens self harm but instead of parenting they take no notice and consider it a phase that they are going through God forbid i ever have emo children |

Well the website came as a shock to one father who thought he knew what his son was doing until he saw him on there!
It's tragic that there are children whose parents don't seem to care about them or what they are doing too. There is such a lot of sadness and aimlessness in life.:( |
