finally the law gets something right!
Law Lords have ruled against a family of travellers in a row that could have stopped evictions around Britain. The family had argued their human rights were breached when they were forced to leave a recreation field owned by Leeds City Council.
Last year the Court of Appeal dismissed the case, saying councils were legally entitled to take back their own land. Seven Law Lords unanimously backed that decision, saying the land could never have been considered a home. The Local Government Association, an umbrella organisation for councils, said the ruling was a "huge relief". |
Re: finally the law gets something right!
wahoo now all we need is to make them pay taxes , pay council tax , pay...
well lets face it they just need to pay |
Re: finally the law gets something right!
They still reckon they are going to appeal against this!
I remember we were called racist nazis for complaining about travellers before but why the heck shouldn't they have to obey the rules like the rest of us? You or I couldn't set up camp anywhere we felt like it could we? :D Shall we try it by Scaitcliffe house? |
Re: finally the law gets something right!

Re: finally the law gets something right!
Was happy when I heard this outcome on the radio yesterday but I don't think it'll be the last we hear of it, or for that matter the last we see of travellers in places where they shouldn't be ;)

Re: finally the law gets something right!
Why don't travellers pull up ar designated camping and caravan parks, and take advantage of the facilities available?
Oh yes, they'd have to pay. |
Re: finally the law gets something right!
This particular case wasted £500,000 of taxpayers' money, because, of course, the family were on legal aid. And they intend to take the case to appeal at the European Court of Human Rights in Strausbourg, squandering yet more of our money.
