Price of flowers

Why is it the price of flowers always goes up round mothers day and valentines day and easter?

I went to buy some flowers for mothers day and okay i was looking at yellow roses because they were my mums favourite flowers and they were £7.99. If i'd bought them last week they were only £4.99 at the same shop.

All the kids though buying a bunch of flowers for mothers day out of their spending money you would have thought they'd have made enough profit anyway.

Did you ask the florist why they had put the price up?

advertising in all national papers, £5.00 a big bunch of roses, valentines day is the biggest rip off,if it warms up a bit the parks may have daffodils blooming ready for sunday! :D

I'd far rather have a bunch of flowers bought for me on any other day of the year than have someone forced to buy them on Mother's day - it means much more!

Re: Price of flowers

Now.......don't you all be having a dig at my 2 birthdays...:D ;)

I think special occasions are a total rip off as far as florists and card manufacturers go. There's nothing a bigger rip off than weddings. If you hire a room for 50 people, 3 course meal with wine/champagne you'll get a price for it..... Tell them it's a wedding and that price will be inflated by at least a third.

The reason that prices go up on special occasions is because they can. People are made to feel tight if they don't join in these charades. If everybody refused to buy flowers at that price on Mother's day, then the retailers and suppliers would have no choice but to lower their prices. There you go....problem solved. :D
