Child Bride
WARNING
This is one of the most distressing stories that I have ever read. A young Afgan girl is married to a 30 year old man - she is just 4. She was treated worse than an animal until she escaped to tell her story aged 11. How can people do this to others  http://hotzone.yahoo.com/b/hotzone/2...0306/blogs2986 |
Re: Child Bride
Hadn't the guts to get to the end of the story Busman, saw the picture of her wounds and now smudgin' me mascara. :(

Re: Child Bride
Sometimes it seems that life is disposable ......that these children are disposable, because despite her experiences she is still only a child. Maybe, if there is a God (or greater being - whatever you believe in) then the balance will be redressed.

Re: Child Bride
Oh no, Busman, hope you didn't think I was burying my head in the sand and being flippant. Just brought me to tears. Beats me how anyone can 'sell' a child in the first place.
Yes, and we are sooo lucky, aren't we |
Re: Child Bride
What a very brave young girl. I only hope that she is not mentally scared for life. (But i think she will be.) A very, very sad story.

Re: Child Bride
Never read anythng like it and it is sickening. Hope she finds a loving home but agree with Sara she might be mentally scared. Hope they hang those animals! Then at the last moment cut them down.

Re: Child Bride
i used to think what goes around comes around, i'm not that sure anymore, what a world we live in, how lucky we are, its just so heartbreaking that a child of 12 years old has suffered such abuse, and there's probably 1000's more just like her, her sheer grit and strength of character has made me count my blessings and i feel very humbled by her courage

Re: Child Bride
It's just heartbreaking that anyone can treat a child this way. :(

Re: Child Bride
Totally incomprehensible how us 'humans' can inflict so much pain and suffering to another human being. As others have said we are so lucky, but there are others who suffer such cruelty (David Peltzer for one) & who through there stories highlight this taboo. I used to think of myself as an abused child but stories like these make me realise that my childhood wasn't that bad.

Re: Child Bride
This custom is barbaric yet to those involved its ok untill they are caught and c21 catches up with them. If society in that area of the world consideres it ok for this to happen how can those soldiers sent out there to drag them kicking and screaming into C21 hope to win? Is this happening in some form or other in our country?

Re: Child Bride
just been reading your article about the young bride and i think it should,nt be allowed not at that age? poor thing. she,s only a child.

Re: Child Bride
This sort of thing goes on all over Africa too, i lived there for quite sometime and ive seen it where the family cripple the child at birth just so they can send the child out on the street to beg as soon as its able to walk! One guy who was well know had a huge house, flash car and three crippled childeren.

Re: Child Bride
We still live in a world in which in some countries child cruelty is the norm and actions akin to it are like something from the dark ages. Children should have a happy childhood so that when they are adults they can contribute to society in a good and honest way.
|
Re: Child Bride
What a sad story so glad the young girl had the strength to escape, it disgusts me that this can be allowed to happen and is thought of as normal in some countries, the whole selling/marrying off children also disgusts me.

Re: Child Bride
I hope the girl forgives them ..Hopefully when they have served about 50 years in prison and have endured beatings like she got.
|
Re: Child Bride
Whoah!!!!! That was heart rending and god how we are so lucky. I hope she moves on and lives a fulfilled and happy life and that by her speaking out if it just stops one other going through what she has, she is amazing!!

Re: Child Bride
its too sick for words....
|
Re: Child Bride
I agree with Granny. and the sad thing is it happens in this country to and it could even be happening to someone down the road from you but you would never think it!
|
Re: Child Bride
The real point, I think, is that she was not just a child, she was female, and in fundamentalist Islamic regimes females don't count. They are treated like animals because that is how they are regarded. And this is the system the fundamentalists want to impose on the rest of the world?
|
Re: Child Bride
Sadly her story won't be unique.
There are children all over the world who are virtual slaves. What's even more shocking is when it happens in this country. When children slip through the net, and are treated little worse than animals, as has been highlighted by a few cases in the last few years. Childhood should be a time of innocence, and it's heartbreaking when that isn't the case.:( |
