Broken Glass On The Streets!!!!

Earlier on this evening i decided to take the pooch for a walk to the shop with me, i walked down my street on to malt street to the drinks shop near kwick fit, On my arrival i found the whole street and i mean the whole (NO EXAGERATION) to be coveredin broken glass bottles, and to my dismay the dog was limping, so idecided to turn round and go home and sort the dog out to find he had glass in his paws. The point to this being that i have noticed this problem by the shop on numerous ocasions and nothing seems to be done, Who do you contact tio get it cleaned up? Is it the responsibility of the shop owners? Is it the responsibility of the council? Also why is there no bin outside so people can dispose of the bottles in a safe manner? I am deeply distressed that no one has cleaned the mess up? It seems to be the same all the time round that area! I ask what would you do? (as to getting something done about it.0 I would appreciate any ideas as i dont know where to start. Thanks in advance.

Firstly let me say it's a disgrace

Secondly as a pet owner I sympathise with you and your dog, and for that matter anyone else that has the misfortune to go through things like this.

Thirdly find out the local councillor for your ward and get on to them, at this time of local elections you should get a positive response, As far as I know rubbish should be cleaned up by the street cleaner each morning.

Provided the shopkeeper is okay I would mention it to them and ask them to sweep it up, at least into a pile so as it's not all over the street, tell them that you're getting on to the council but you'd appreciate a little bit of help at this time so that others don't suffer the same consequences that you have.

Finally littering is a criminal offence so make sure you tell the council that it would be wise to put a bin there. On that point I have noticed a lack of litter bins in a lot of places where you'd expect them to be I suppose it's down to vandals torching them but, that doesn't help 'Keep Britain tidy' does it?

WITH THE AMOUNT OF GLASS BROKEN ON THE STREETS UP HERE AT THE WEEKEND I COULD MAKE A FORTUNE!!!!

Its a disgrace the amount of broken glass around even with recycling bins. Kids can suffer as well as animals.

I have to agree that it is disgusting. My dog suffered a few times and had to go to the vet once to have glass removed from her paw, as it was in too deep for me to get it. There's no excuse for littering to that extent. I have said for a long time that drinks in glass bottles should be significantly more expensive than they are. Some of the extra money paid should then be refunded on return of the bottle....... like it used to be.

Sorry to hear about your dog Reidy, I too think it's disgraceful that people don't take their litter home with them. As Spuggie has said it's not just dogs who suffer, my little'un has fallen on glass in the past & as I have the stupid habit of not wearing footwear in summer I too have had to go to hospital to have glass removed from my foot!
