Election results.
No I'm afraid I haven't been staring into my crystal ball, but apparently this BBC website shows them as soon as they are announced later, just click on Hyndburn from the list on the right.

I think she was up against a lot of working class Tories, the kind of little followers the real people with power in the Tory rely on, but don't really give a f*ck about, and probably laugh at there servile attitudes from the comfort of their leather armchairs at the Carlton Club. |

Re: Election results.
Here are the results from yesterday. At a quick glance it looks like power shifted around a bit in the wards but the Tories kept the same number of seats, 18, even if they are in different wards. Labour lost one seat and an Independant Councillor, Nicholas Collingridge, now sits in Clayton-le-Moors. Here in Oswaldtwistle we now have a Labour Councillor, Edwina McCormack, who knocked Sandra Heys of her Immanuel seat. Over in Rishton the Country's youngest Councillor, Claire Hamilton, can get back to what most young people do, clubbing and generally have fun because, she lost her Labour seat last night to Tory Jennet Liddle.

sorry double post sorry double post sorry double post

In then end the Rishton result says it all. 2000 votes cast, we should have lost it by 500. In the end we lost by 20 odd. We lost the postal vote (which went out to voters on the 26th ie Hewitt, Prescott, Clarke 10-1 votes in favour of the Tories and there were 400 postals cast). So the walk up vote was massively for Claire Hamilton. Rishton has got someone who does n't give a t*ss about Rishton and lost a very hard working popular Councillor. Like I said Neil, if you can see any sense in that result for Rishton then you are a screw loose mate. Gayle will make a great councillor (if she wants another go) and Claire will come back. What is sickening is we voted out 4 honest hard working ordinary people Gayle - Claire - Rob Kearney - Tim O'Kane and replaced them with people who are not interested in the ordinary person or working for them. No wonder Hyndburn is collapsing. (Exhange St, Princess St, Horne St, Clement St, Augusta St and even parts of Ossy are getting worse). Another 7 years of Tory rule and Hyndburn will be unrecogniseable from the once proud towns it knew. Sad night for the ordinary folk. A victory for easily influenced voter. |

Re: Election results.
Graham, my friend ;), I think you will find my above post very unbiased as I mentioned 3 seats that all changed hands to 3 different parties. I can not comment if Claire worked hard for Rishton but I did not say that she did not either. If you tell me that she worked hard for Rishton then I will take you on your word that she did.
That is the problem with Local Elections and politics in general. People tend to vote for the Political Party and not the person. Maybe if both Claire and Gayle had been batting for the other side, Hyndburn would now have 2 very good Councillors. I personally think, and have told her myself, that Gayle would be an excellent hard working Councillor. She was just running for the Party out of favour at the time. Thats just the way of politics. |

In the line of my work I rubbed more than shoulders with a lot of Tories, I've even written before how I was invited to a private dinner with Thatcher, the more I saw the less I liked, and I stand by my earlier statement that the people with real power in the Tory party sneeringly look down at the blind party faithful of working class Tories. |

I've posted this link before, quite a while ago. As politics has raised its ugly head again follow the link and take the test. As I said previously some of you may be surprised.

Re: Election results.
I have to agree with all Graham Jones remarks about what the people of Hyndburn can now expect. We lost 2 good hard working councillors in Claire Hamilton and Tim O'Kane, and I am sure neither of their replacements will do anything to benefit their constituents. As a resident of Clayton I can not believe that they have elected someone who was arrested for singing racialist songs, do they not realise that an Independent can promise you the earth but will never be able to deliver because he will not be able to get a seconder for his propostions. I shames me that my fellow citizens can elect someone whose ideas are akin to the BNP.
When will Peter Britcliffe and Co stop comtemplating their navels and acknowlege that Hyndburn is a mess. Our Council Tax will increase again and services will disappear, now that the Housing and Works departments are no longer part of HBC, and witht the loss of the Highways functions - which have gone back to LCC, the question has to be asked if we are now viable as an authority. |
