Since I was widowed, 10 years ago, I've gone to Malta at least twice a year. Quite often I go alone and I feel so safe there, I can go out at night on my own and I know I'm OK. Apart from that I love the country, which I now know very well, and the people who are honest, friendly and welcoming. I like Cyprus and the Greek islands too (especially Zakynthos) but I wouldn't go alone.

Favourite holiday destinations, well thats a tough one. Our favourite has to be Crete (Aghios Nikolaos) or any of the Greek islands, Barbados was nice but it was considered unsafe to venture into Bridgetown after dark as there were a lot of cases of muggings, Cyprus and Turkey are great too.

I like Skiathos but it was starting to get a bit commercial last time I went last year.

Also, like Malta so might be looking at going there again this year.

Varadero, Cuba... absolutely beautiful....very hot and relatively cheap to get there and cheap when you get there. But you need to go soon before it becomes too commercialised..........

Love the Greek Islands and have been to some of them on my own, very safe and felt confident going out at night. Favourite destination has to be Queenstown NZ. Wonderfully scenic, good grub, friendly folk and loads of hair raising activities......Superb.:D

My favourite holiday place is Northern Ireland. I love it over there - people are friendly, scenery is lovely, dont have to bother changing the money, lots to do and see the only bad thing is the weather!

I love going anywhere. Travel is someting I wish I'd done more of before we settled down. I have a few friends who have taken a year out of work to go travelling. One went all through Africa and then South America, teh other did S America and Australia/NZ.

I'd love to do something like that but its not possible now. Maybe when I'm ready for retiring and Siobhan has flown the nest.

I've been lucky enough to see a lot of the world but my favourite place for a holiday, if the sun's out, is Sandbanks in Dorset, and imparticularly the beach reached by ferry at Studland.

We used to rent a house on the spit of land which connects Sandbanks to the mainland at Poole. On one side you have great views of the English Channel, stretching from the Needles to old Harry. On the otherside it over looked the second largest natural harbour in the world, and had great sunsets.

Re: What is your favourite holiday destination?

Blackpool is cool, I have a lot of childhood memories there (and adult ones!!) Don't like it when its wet and cold tho. I got scared stiff about four years ago when we went in the haunted house just before you go on the pleasure beach, i lost my shoe so went back for it then all of a sudden freddie krugeur came running after me!! Then you run into the pub where everyone laughs at you!! If you've been in then you'll no what i mean! Apparantly its not half as bad nowadays tho.

Re: What is your favourite holiday destination?

Anywhere in the uk, I'll go abroad one day but can't be bothered with the hassle. Blackpool is special to me, I was made there, and returned there for many family holidays. Think my electrical career and christmas light interest has a lot to do with blackpool. I like devon, the south coast, wales, the lakes, got a caravan at skeggy to escape to. Just jump in the van, and off for the weekend.

Cornwall holds lots of happy childhood holiday memories for me, used to go down quite a lot as a kid. Setting off in what seemed the middle of the night to avoid the worst of the traffic and wondering if the car would make it all that way!

I went to Thailand for 3 weeks over christmas '97 and I'll never forget that either, I'd love to visit other contries in that part of the world.

Re: What is your favourite holiday destination?

I agree Mayrhofen is nice but, of the places I have been I'd have to say Oklahoma but then there are some super places I'm planning on going to over the next few years such as Italy and Canada which may take over the accolade of favourite place.

For places within the UK Llnafacreth in North Wales, Ambleside, Coniston, Hawkshead area in the Lake District, Isle of Skye in Scotland and Dunster in Somerset take some beating :D
