the calls that make me laugh are from those companies that have outsourced their call centres to places like India or Far East, but have given their call operators the most English names possible

I also find those calls amusing, especially if you interupt them , as they lose their place in the script.
I do try to aviod dealing with any company who has outsourced their work to the Far East and India - just as a matter of principle.

BT actually sells CD's with all customers on it, these calls are then computer generated perhaps 100 at a time when 1 person answers the other 99 are dropped, this leaves you with a SILENT CALL.
I had a terrible problem with this and joined TPS it made practically no difference.
I joined One-Tel which is now TalkTalk which means BT will remove you from the directory, consequently I have had very few calls like this.
It took 18 months or more to achieve this.
In the meantiome just say I will have to put you on hold, the line goes dead very quickly.

“For all other matters please hold I will be with you as soon as I can. Your call IS important to me so please hold.”

I used to get loads but i registered with someone/something, it could have been TPS i`m not sure but i`ve only had 2 calls since and thats in about 2 and half years so i guess i`m either lucky or i have a mountain of them stacked up ready to annoy me once again, but if they do i`m going to follow Jambutty's idea i like that.
