Parking Issue
Can some one please tell me if i sound petty!!!
First of all i live accross the road from a school, which has meeting there almost every night of the week, jujitsu, alcoholics anonymous etc. Tonight i went to the KFC with the daughter and there were several spaces to park on the street, to my return around 10 mins later i came back and could not literally park anywhere on the street!!!! This is becoming a problem for me as i we go out and the child falls asleep in the car or we have shopping in the boot we have to walk from the next street where we have to park the car. Is there anything i can do?? I have tried to talk to the schools head but never get anywhere. |
Re: Parking Issue
Do you mind if i ask which school? Don't they have their own carpark?

Re: Parking Issue
Try contacting your Councillor, HBC are thinking about resident parking schemes for some areas.

It would be best to talk to some residents first to see if they agree then contact your Councillor and try to arrange a meeting. The other and possibly better way is to attend the next Harwood Area Council meeting and bring up it there. It will be minuted then so it can't be forgotten about. If the turn out is as poor as I am led to believe at Area Council meeting apart for Oswaldtwistle's, they might be pleased at being given something to do :) |

I know, I'm a bit concerned but I'm sure you'll recover soon!

Re: Parking Issue
Why dont you go over during the day (not during dinner) and ask the lady in the office for the names and numbers of the clubs that use the building in the evening. Its not in the schools hands to deal with the parking as it isnt any of them at these clubs. The building is just loaned out. Then you could tell the clubs directly about the parking issue. I'm sure if they knew, they would tell their members to park elsewhere. Like on York st.

Re: Parking Issue
I don't think it's right that the school building is hired out like that, they haven't got the facilities needed to do that. If it was a business that wanted to set up, a pub for example or some group wanted to build a hall, church etc, they would never be allowed to get away with that with out car parking facilities.
I have sympathy with you, but look on the bright side you haven't had adult footballers strip of to underware outside your window like my nan has. They not only wouldn't open the car parks but wouldn't let them use the changing rooms. |
Re: Parking Issue
we used to live on westwood street and yes its a pain. There is unfortunately nothing you can do short of trying to get a residents parking scheme going which normally costs you money.
I had teh same thing when I lived at home, it was Elizabeth street and all of Rists wires used to park on the side streets.gaian nowt you can do |
Re: Parking Issue
Before you buy a house, visit the area at differenet times and different days so you can assess if such problems exist.
That is my daily piece of advice, I will go now and find someone to annoy. |
Re: Parking Issue
keep ringing the police when they have AA meetings
one of them is bound to fall off the waggon and be over the limit when driving thats 1 more space for you :D ps: if you didnt have 2 cars that would help :p edit: why not see about demolishing the church , hardly anyone goes to it anymore and ime pretty sure thoes that do wont mind praying at hiome so you can park :) |
Re: Parking Issue
trust you chav, your mum has the same problem!!! Its damn annoying when we moved here it was no where near this bad, the only time you could not park was at 8.45 and 15.20 when the school opened and closed, now it seems to be all day monday to friday.
P.S Most familys have 2 cars these days. But still i cant even park one! |
Re: Parking Issue
my mum dosnt have a car infact she cant drive.!
you sure my mums got a car ? |
Re: Parking Issue
Our whole town has a parking problem, so I just park on the double yellows now, I know I can park there all day for a week and get a ticket, yet if I were to park just off the street in the angled bays I'd get a fixed penalty off the council after 31 minutes. I could even block the bays and I doubt I'd get a ticket but god forbid you to park in the proper place over the allowed time.
Do they enforce double yellows in ossy and accy? |

Re: Parking Issue
You should contact the school Head first - there may be something he/she can do. Many schools let out their premises in the evenings, it can be a great help with the budget (speaking as one who has spent many hours trying to get a quart out of a pint pot budget), but do have an interest in keeping local residents happy. Residents parking is probably the most certain answer, but then what about when you have visitors? Living in London near a tube station, I have driven round for over half a hour trying to find a space to park my car within walking distance of home, and eventually found a space because the commuters are beginning to leave (7 o'clock+) and I know it is annoying.
However, if the KFC is so short a distance away (you were away 10 mins) why not walk? Then they can't park. |
