Smile Please – We Want Your Photo Too.
The hottest debate today is the revelation that speed cameras will also have a camera to take the photograph of the driver when the speed camera flashes.
This innovation is an attempt to prevent guilty speedsters from getting someone else to take the rap. Your comments are invited. |

Re: Smile Please – We Want Your Photo Too.
The best thing to do is to go out very early in the morning to a camera which is regularly a barsteward with you; take lots of clingfilm and a ladder. :)
Blurs the image all lovely like. |

You could always drive safely and stick to speed limits... Or is that too radical?.... Works for me I must say :)

Apologies for having a serious opinion. Lets see how much your laughing the next time you read the paper and someones speeded into a child crossing the road. Stick to the speed limits. Drive safely.... Unless of course its last orders and your not going to make it :) |
Re: Smile Please – We Want Your Photo Too.
In Germany they already do take photographs from the front, I know this for my sins, I was FlasheD doing 63kph on what I judged to be an open road. I was fined 40 Dmarks. 63kph is 50mph which did not think it was too fast for the area/conditions. The policeman who served the summons, (it was a company car from the firm in Germany) was friendly and even gave me a photocopy of the picture.
Interestingly they also use this, from time to time, to check whether drivers are wearing seat belts, something for which I never would be found doing. Funny story, and true, about the police who breathalised a person who was not positive, only to realise that, they had breathalised a pessenger in a British car. |
Re: Smile Please – We Want Your Photo Too.
Yeah in Germany they have removable speed cameras so they can place them anywhere and they all take a picture of the driver, the number plate of the vehicle plus a picture of the vehicle. I have not had a speeding ticket but i have had a ticket for tailgating, I was following my husband on the Autobahn and because i did not know were i was going i stayed kinda close and a couple of weeks later the polizei came knocking on my door and asked to speak to me, they then showed me a picture of me driving too close, Along came a €125 fine and 4 points on my licence!! Due to the speed of 150 KM recorded i was a tad too close. Now they have clamped down on this so i could have lost my driving licence for a month and a bigger fine!!

Re: Smile Please – We Want Your Photo Too.
dont really care what they do with speedcameras, if i am caught speeding which i do on rare occasions and am caught - i expect to pay the piper! anybody who bitches about getting caught breaking the limit, needs to get a life.;)

And with Cashman too, if you get caught, just pay up without grumbling; breaking the law after all. Still think, getting back to the original question, yes, good they are looking at better pictures of driver. Know a certain couple who incorrectly stated that the wife was driving, when in fact the husband, 'cause he was getting close to too many points on his licence and would have meant an automatic ban if he had picked up a further 3 points ... now that is a crime in my eyes. Lazeeboy: :rofl38: Bet the German police were red-faced, eh ? |

Slow:definitely (best to admit it, adversary nowhere to go then) You upset ? : Yes, as you would not have responded, just laughed it off. Needed to chill, then transformed ?: Yes, lot's of people do this this in discussion, have an angry moment, think better of it and then decide to make up and kiss. :cuddle: Do you need to chill right now or are you laughing ?? : Convinced that you are taking the p*ss out of me. Clever, Moi ? A being of high intelligence.. 'WOMAN' Over and out. :moon: |

Re: Smile Please – We Want Your Photo Too.
I don't see a problem with it. It should make doubly sure that they get the right person.

Re: Smile Please – We Want Your Photo Too.
Saw some pointing towards me on the a1 but they looked old...are they the ones?
Also cameras pointing towards will miss moterbikes who dont have plates on front of bikes... seems odd. |

Re: Smile Please – We Want Your Photo Too.
No, theres only one so far, unless they've added more. Be very carefull on the motorways or snake pass. The yellow cameras on gantries, looking toward you look like cctv, but are infact speed cameras, there will be another one further down the road and it measures your average speed. It's no use slowing down and then speeding up, because it measures your speed inbetween the cameras. Also there can be several in a row, and can measure your average speed over miles. obviouslly they read your registration. Recently ones on the M6 were blinded by fog. Since this they seem to have fitted lights near to were the camera is pointing, maybe this fixes it. The forward facing ones which are popular in leicester do take a picture but I don't think they are clear enough to see in the car.
What I don't get is if they can have forward facing cameras, why do they need a rear camera to take the registration and a forward camera to take the person, why cant they both be took from the front. Only thing I can think of is that the forward facing ones are by a different company and the rear facing company cant use that technolgy. |
