deal or no deal

A lecturer got sacked from blackburn college for appearing on deal or no deal. I think its wrong what she did especially just before the exam. Don't get me wrong she is a good teacher, she taught me last year.

12 june her episode will be broadcasted. hope she does good.
What are your thoughts about her?

I'm not surprised she was sacked! Had I been her employer I would have sacked her too!

I agree, let's hope she does well on the show .... or at the very least, covers for loss of earnings during her un-employment. ;)

Re: deal or no deal

I think its right she was sacked. She was warned beforehand what would happen and she still went. Was it worth it or not? She will find it hard now to find another job in education because she took unauthorised leave during term time.

"Mrs Brand-Parkinson continually ignored instruction that she was not permitted to take time off during the college term time to appear on a game show from her line manager, the vice-principal and the college principal.

"She also ignored advice from her union representative that by appearing on the game show she would face dismissal for gross misconduct."

Mrs Brand-Parkinson, a mum of one of Mowbray Avenue, Blackburn, said she had won a prize that was "not life-changing" on the show, which will be aired on June 12.

most of the other teachers also wish her well, although some don't.

at first she was suspended and then she got the sack

Pound signs afore regular money is daft./ What was she hoping for the "BIG ONE"

Re: deal or no deal

She took the gamble and lost her job. It said in the LET that she'd won some money but that it wasn't a life changing amount.

I'm glad Blackburn College put it's students before her request for time off to take part in this show, even her union advised her she was being stupid and didn't back her.

She took six days off work to take part in the show.

I wonder if she'll share her winnings with her students who may not pass their exams because of her gamble?:p

They record 3 programmes a day for a week then have a week off!! If a week of recording constitutes 6 days mon - sat then they get 3 weeks of programmes recorded in one week. I hear there is a nasty virus spreading around the contestants and now noel has caught it so they have suspended recording for an extra week

Ahhhh but nothing was said to what kind of virus it was!!!!!! Who's to say there's not something more than a bit of hand holding going on.????

hee hee, only joking. I suppose with them being in the studio altogether every day and then all staying in the same hotel, somethings bound to get passed around!! ;)

Another post dissapeared, thi site is getting worse. How can appearing on a game show be gross missconduct. Is it because it may encourage the students to take up gambling?

Off thread a bit so appologies, but just a question about Deal or No Deal.

I thought by law a prize winning game had to have some skill involved? This show seems to be purely based on gambling your luck.

Even those stupid tv phone in quizes have three answers to chose from, and show some if not much skill.

What is the first name of the Queen?
a) Queenie.
b) Elizabeth.
c) Madge.

aww did I upset you cashman because I can, hope you feel better now. Well sorry but I can.

No tink I won't, because I hardly have time of because I want to, so when I do, I can. They're called holidays, and as far as I know there isn't a law that says you can't use holidays for deal or no deal. Secondly it's a family business. Third he can't get drivers.

Re: deal or no deal

Well yes, a lot of jobs you can book holidays for, for whatever you want to do, but don`t forget she was a college tutor who has all the school holidays, and as well as taking time of she let down a lot of her students at an important time. Which any one who has ever taken exams will know how her students must have felt.

The phone in part is live thats why the name of the winner comes up on screen rather than Noel announcing the name of the winner due to it being recorded weeks in advance.

As for the girl losing her job, she was turned down due to it being during term time at the college, why didn't she just ask the show if she could participate during holidays??

As for taking hols when you want, yes most jobs you can if there is cover but when you take a job in a school/college then you know that you can't take leave during term time..nuff said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
