Its not a 'made up thing' which people are totally taken in by it. Its people who actually go out of their way to complain about everything! Such as saying 'Bah Bah Black Sheep'. Because of the PC Brigade, we now cannot say that.. Same with saying 'Brain Storming' (they say that in schools). Because of the PC Brigade no-one can say that anymore because its supposed to be offensive towards people with brain problems!

Its ridiculous!... And certainly not made up!..

where do you get this info from Morgan? what i'm getting at is has anyone directly told you you are banned from saying "bah bah black sheep" or "brain storming"? or have you been told by any ruling body you can't fly your national flag? its just going over the same old rubbish again and again.

No I don’t sit at home thinking up stuff. I listen to the wireless.

If other parts of the UK can have a national day then so can the English.

"The Battle of New Orleans " was during the war of 1812 not the War of Independance (4th July ),which was fifty years earlier , the Brits got whupped again and chased back to Canada

Re: England Day

PC Is actually quite ridiculous now:
  • Baa Baa RAINBOW Sheep has now to be said
  • Blackboards are now to be called Chalkboards. As it may offend black people. But White boards are allowed to be called White boards?!
  • On questionnaires there is no longer going to be an option stating 'White British'. I cant remember what the new option is something like European or something..
  • Campaigns are under way for school nativity plays to be banned, if not the name of 'Mary' should be banned as it is a religious name and offends some individuals!
  • Campaigns are under way for the term 'students' to be banned as it is patronising and doesnt help 'students' learn. They are campaigning for the students to be called 'learners'.
  • Campaigns are under way for the term Chairman, Postman etc to be banned as this is sexist.
  • Teachers are to be told they arent allowed to say Brainstorming anymore. They should say 'thought showers'.
  • Gingerbread man is not to be said. You now have to say Gingerbread 'Person'!!

Much obliged for the correction steeljack however the fighting in Louisiana was really a series of battles for New Orleans, lasting from December 1814 through January 1815.

At that time the Brits were fighting the real war in Europe against the French under Napoleon. The war you speak of was just a kick about to give our boys in the Colonies something to do!

Lets be fair to the Yanks. They were of course, fully allied with the Frogs at the time...so much so, that until very recently, their national dish was named after them. And what more of an exciting meal can you have than a plate of French Fries?

Re: England Day

That’s why the French don’t like the British. We sorted out that short a**ed squirt and spoiled his world domination ambitions.

Even after British blood was shed in freeing France from the German tyranny not once but twice it didn’t make any difference. DeGaul, the tall guy with a hooter that would have challenged Jimmy Durante, got his revenge by continually blocking our entry into the Common Market for years.

Look what they did to our beef industry even though they were told to accept imports.
