Cinema/Movie ticket prices
Can anyone let me know how much you pay to visit the cinema (movies) in the UK and other countries , Here in the U S the price has hit a $10 minimum (5.30 pounds) which I find bloody outrageous considering most of the new films are either inferior re-makes or utter tripe. When you consider you can buy a movie on DVD for $15 (8 pound) usually within 3 months of release and watch it as many times as you like the $10 fee is a rip off , even the Kids pictures are the same price (Toy story etc....) a family of 5 pays $50 for 2 hours or less, not including parking other expenses .
To my mind the Cinema owners should be forced to refund 1/2 the ticket price if you return to the box office before the movie is halfway through, a system easy enough to introduce, and the price should drop in the second week after opening .........No-one can be forced to pay for bad food in a restaurant ( I know I haven't) same should apply to a bad movie. |
Re: Cinema/Movie ticket prices
I too think it's a very expensive day out at the cinema. No wonder there isn't the amount of people going to the cinema who used to, trash films and silly pricing.
£5.20? I think at Accrington VUE cinema, and of course, the food/drinks is extortionate. I think it's just down right cheaky to charge sometimes more than 100% markup on products just because they're in the cinema and you have no other choice but to do without. On the bright side, its £4.20 for students, and I think OAP's get a discount too. |
Re: Cinema/Movie ticket prices
In London you usually pay around 10 pounds for a cinema ticket. Here in Malaysia, I can pay 2.50 for a VIP seat with waiter service.
I watched MI3 whilst a waiter brought me a tiger beer and a couple of spring rolls all for less than 5 quid. |
Re: Cinema/Movie ticket prices
When I went to see Da Vinci Code it was £5.95 for me and £4.95 each for my two eldest. It is very over priced but in honesty you can't beat the cinema experience for watching the latest blockbuster film.

But worse than them, however, are the popcorn-munching, clinically-obese, mentally-retarded couples who will invariably sit right behind me, even if by some chance the rest of the cinema is empty. Their only break from their constant eating will be for a swig of some disgusting soft drink followed by the obligatory burp. I do not know why this happens - maybe it's my pheromones - but happen it does. It's the same with the trains - wherever I sit, I get surrounded by 'em. If we had some segregation in the cinemas (between sensible adults and the riff-raff) then I would quite willingly go back & pay a reasonable price, but until then, NO! |
Re: Cinema/Movie ticket prices
Going to see any film at the cinema is always a bit of a lottery.
How do you decide which film to see? The da Vinci Code was panned by the critics, but people obviously feel it is the 'must see' film because of it's worldwide success at the box office. You pays your money and you takes your chance. I don't really think you can expect to get your money back at the interval if the film's not to your taste. Where would that scenario end? A football match is rubbish, demand your entrance fee back at half time? On holiday to a sunny clime it rains, ask for your travel agent to fly you back after three days? A date doesn't even get you to first base, ask your dinner companion for the cost of their sausage supper back? I prefer to watch films in the comfort of my own home. You can smoke, stamp your feet if it's exciting and you can even put your feet on the seats and no one is going to tell you off.:) |

Re: Cinema/Movie ticket prices
you text film to 241 on any orange sim and just show them the text on any wednesday at any cinema and it 2 tickets for the price of 1.
cineworld do a cheap day, don't know if you've got one near you? It's strange but I manage to munch and swig withouit making a noise tealeaf. Only time i made a noise was when i thought my phone was off but wasn't, that was embarassing. But yes I always seem to get them too, me and my brother used to go cinema quite often as we were both into watching films, and even when we went late on a wednesday and there was like 8 of us, we'd always get a late couple that would sit right by us just to p us off. We used to get up and move. We payed our money we're entitled to see the movie. Once I went with the ex to tamworth cinema and we could hardly hear it, we had kids running about most of the way through the film. That time I did demand my money back, and got it. Its about 5.80 at our uci, which are now odeon, and at nuneaton that used to be ABC but is now odeon(who are odeon, where did they come from?). theres also something about the omen tuesday on there site 06/06/06, thats today ! |
Re: Cinema/Movie ticket prices
Heh I have my own personal cinema in the back room, DVDs from Lovefilm, Full dolby surround sound, Projector giving a screen size far in excess of any plasma/LCD, I even pipe the PS2/Laptop/Sky through it.
Comfy seats, no noisy kids(that aren't my own anyway :D ) Cold beer at sensible prices. Oh and I can stop the film/footy/game if I want a wee. |

Re: Cinema/Movie ticket prices
Cinema! What’s a cinema?
Oh! I remember! It’s a place where I could go and watch a film of my choice in reasonable comfort and not be plagued by unruly people whose one aim in life seems to be to disrupt other people’s enjoyment. Give me a DVD in the comfort of my own place any day. Now if only they would keep the background music down to a level below that of the spoken dialogue all would be OK. The volume control on my remote is beginning to show signs of strain. |
