Queens BIrthday triple celebration

In Australia....we get a long weekend holiday....the monday off closest to June 14th ....to celebrate the Queens birthday....which is different than her real birthday.....for some obscure reason....
As my birthday falls on the 14th June......I always celebrate anyway......but this year was slightly different.....on Sunday I got married to a lovely lady I have known for 3 yrs......and we were married in the morning with 40 guests attending in our backyard area...and then it was a massive makeover for the birhday party starting at 1.30 pm with 40 different guests arriving.....mainly from my chat room and from all over Australia.......went to bed.....tired.......but happy......

Congratulations on your Wedding Tal......I wish you and your good lady a long and happy life together....and Happy Birthday too.

I spent the Queens Birthday weekend of 2003 up at my sister-in-laws place in Wodonga....they always have a monster bonfire and they hire a jukebox and have karaoke and a real knees up. They really have a good time...and yet lots of the aussies would like to ditch the monarchy...still i suppose they would find some home grown celebration to take its place.

I've never looked it up but I always believed that the Queen's official birthday was the day she was crowned.

A bit grim that all of the accyweb folk didn't get an invite..........only joking!!

All best wishes to you both xx

Congratulations Tal, may you both be very happy together.

I find it strange that the Queen's birthday is celebrated in other countries but not a bank holiday to be seen here...:) I know that a lot of Aussies would like to have got rid of the monarchy and become a republic but ultimately the changes may have been too much hassle eg. lots of things would have had to be re-named Royal mail, Royal flying Doctor service and anything else containing the word Royal and that's just for starters...

The difference between the Sovereign's official birthday and the actual bithday dates back to the reign of Edward VII, who had his actual birthday in November. Edward VII loved parades but not in the middle of winter and so the official birthday was moved to the summer and the tradition has continued ever since.
