Disgusted they are using the HTML and Bobby passed logos when the site failes misserably and wouldnt pass either :( you can test the site online and it fails the tests so why are they using the logos to say they have passed ...

I'm surprised they have not got a mugshot of Britcliffe staring out from the middle of the home page.

New?

New meaning it's still woefully out of date?

A search on conservation came back with no information.:(

A search on re-cycling came back with no mention of the newly introduced green textile sacks.:(

The part where we can give our money to the council and pay our council tax appears to work though.:(

Come on. Less soundbites in the local press about how Hyndburn Borough Council is embracing modern technologies, and lets see some evidence.

Re: Hyndburn Borough Council's new website

I always feel I seem to be moaning about HBC, but this 'new' site is as bad and as outdated as the last.

It says Rhyddings Park has tennis facilities. Please note that the nets were removed fifteen years ago. The tarmac has more potholes and a more interesting service than the moon.

Anybody trying to find Ossy Mills from the map on the site, which has no roads at all marked but some pretty trees on what I presume is supposed to be Blackburn Road, may as well use a divining rod to find their way there.

Other than that, it's really good.....honest.;)

KIPAX 14-06-2006 13:45

Re: Hyndburn Borough Council's new website

Its not new as such.. they seem to have all the old content from the last website but plonked it into the same flawed engine that hyndburnlife.co.uk uses ..

it would seem lessons not learnt:)

Haha. I know what you mean.

But overall I do think it is a good site..

Well It may be the closest you'll ever get to any job role associated with 'Leader of the Council'...

Sorrrry!

It would be really funny if you did though. I think it would 'pee' Peter off big style if you were appointed his PA/Assistant.

Given a modicum of sense, surely it would have been wiser to launch the 'new' website when it was completely finished.

After a quick perusal it's nowhere I'll be going back to very soon.

I wonder how much the 'new' improved website cost?

KIPAX 14-06-2006 15:16

Re: Hyndburn Borough Council's new website

Quite right garinda.. having a notice saying its not finished yet...really lame. no excuse.. if it isnt finished yet and doesnt pass the criteria to use those passed notices then they still shouldnt be using them... so my original comment stands.. they are in the wrong to use them.. its missleading and disshonest ..

Also as this is a goverment information website and as such a service...they are breaking the law... section 5 of the disability act which has been in place for many years but more recently (relative) became enforceable... if a blind person cannot use the website the same as able boded people then they can be presceuted. and believe me a blind reader will fall over wiht that website

they should let proffesionals make and run the website.

It said in the musuems month section that Patrick Troughton was coming to Haworth Art Gallery. Imagine my disappointment to find it`s not the former Doctor Who, but a Rishton based artist.

Re: Hyndburn Borough Council's new website

Spelling errors – I presume it should be Consultation, not Consiltation

The Sound festival hasn’t been held for about three years so it’s a bit behind the times to say the council is involved with it.

Who wrote this ‘A full time presence is provided….’ in the information about Rhyddings Park?

I’m sorry but I think you’re stretching it when you put ‘hedges’ and ‘herbaceous borders’ as features of interest in a park – isn’t that sort of standard stuff in a park?

Rhyddings Park is not in the list of parks on the side menu bar

The next date of meeting for Oswaldtwistle Area Council says March 7th.

In fact all of the dates for the next area council meetings are in either 2005 or early 2006.

Where there are lists of links, surely it would help to put things in an alphabetical order.

Information and Communication link doesn’t take you anywhere.

Nothing about the Councillors and how to contact them anywhere.

Exactly what public art work is HBC involved with?

That's what I said about Hyndburnlife and was told that it had been created by professionals and was maintained by them and not by HBC.

Then I contacted the "professionals" in question to point out some of the failings which the mods on the site refused to accept - you know, the real basic stuff like inability to register or log-in - and I was told that it was my browser's fault and that I had no business tracing them to complain anyway as they had better things to do than talk to members of the public!
:D

Re: Hyndburn Borough Council's new website

:D Oh it's even funnier than Hyndburnlite the more you look at it.

Have you seen this page?

I've looked at it with a couple of different browsers. Firefox users might find it slightly amusing ;) The cells are slightly up the creek. I might venture to suggest that the creator has only viewed it with IE.

Then there's the 'health well-being and care' link that only leads you to links about benefits - there's a 'health well-being and care' link on the top of the page but all you get by clicking on that is the same page again!

Now what other jolly fun things have we got on there I wonder? There's a feedback form. Do you suppose there's any point telling them about these problems or do you think I'll get a similar response to the ones I got when I tried to inform them about the problems with Hyndburnlife - ie "We see no problems, therefore there are no problems."
:D

Hey come on Rindy. They've got some really super-dooper maps! Look at this:D one.

KIPAX 15-06-2006 08:29

Re: Hyndburn Borough Council's new website

Thing is... the template engine used for this and hyndburnlife and other localarea/life sites.. Its a pile of tripe .. This is what I do know and this is what I have been involved with for about 15 years and without showing off I can tell you I most certainly do know what I am talking about. Its at best sub standard. It doesn't meet any best practice and certainly doesnt pass any w3c or simple accesibility tests ..it doesnt validate and has over 100 errors on the first page.... and it can leave anyone using it open to prosecution under as previously stated.. section 5 of the disability act

Saying still under construction is a very lame and poor attempt to avoid prosecution under the disability act and to be used as an excuse if anyone complains... As such you can expect the under construction/not ready yet sign to be a permanant fixture.

That's the one I looked at with the lovely trees and no roads marked except the M65 and Hyndburn Road.

It's more cryptic than a crossword, and I wish anybody using it the very best of luck.

Think you're all being a wee bit harsh here guys? note the 'under construction' sign. And for your information KIPAX, 15 years of experience would tell you to check the details of the bobby report before using it to stake your enitreview of the site. You were testing a server redirect page with the title 'Clicks and Links Ltd' but oh my god the title displayed on the site its self is 'Hyndburn Borough Council' thats a bit wierd??? lol.

Still tho I agree with the map thing and yeah firefox does make the site look hideous but lets just see what becomes of it and remember the 'under construction'.

I think some of the HBC site might even go down hill. Each department within HBC will now be able to update and change there own section of the site. Before any changes were made by the IT department which took an age to happen so it was often out of date. The new idea is that each department will be able to keep their bit up to date.

Gayle 21-06-2006 09:31

Re: Hyndburn Borough Council's new website

I realise that it's underconstruction and that not everything is working yet but I manage a couple of websites myself (very small ones) and it is actually helpful if people point out things that aren't working. So, I sent my list of pointers to the webmaster at the same time as posting it on here. I wasn't doing it to be nasty or cause trouble but to simply help - after all, they do invite comments.

I haven't had a response yet.

It has been set but I can't remember without digging out the info from the one last Tuesday.

Gayle 21-06-2006 17:20

Re: Hyndburn Borough Council's new website

Just to let you know, I received a polite thank you from the webmaster regarding the flaws and notification that things have been sent to the relevant departments.

If anyone else has any suggestions you should send them to the webmaster - if they don't know what's wrong then how can they fix it.

It's all very well being critical (I know am) but it will always be a flawed site if we don't support them. Whilst it's fun to have a go at it remember that it is that site that people in the council refer outsiders too and therefore, the view of Hyndburn that outsiders get. I think we should be encouraging them to get it right.

Re: Hyndburn Borough Council's new website

Encouraging them to get it right?????? With the ridiculous sums of money this website project has swallowed we should not need to have to run round clearing up after them. What happened to the concept of "right first time"?

Re: Hyndburn Borough Council's new website

Some on here might be able to point out and offer there advice if they are webmasters themselves. The site is for the community so the community should help if they can.
