British summertime

Begins tomorrow and it's the longest day, hope you enjoy it

What do you love about british summer time and whats your favourite things to do.
I like going for walks along the canal, and doing the garden, or just sitting on the roof watching people go by, enjoying a nice cold drink.

Me & my mates always walk along the canal in Clayton when it's sweltering hot - find our way down to Wilsons, have a knockabout & a mini wembley, I whip out the guitar & before we know it everyone is in a chorus of kumbaya & it's quarter to 2 in the morning!
Quality!

British summertime began when the clocks went forward on the 26th March, tomorrow as you pointed out is the longest day..... I can't help start thinking it's downhill from here and the dark evenings will be back before you know it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: British summertime

I am fascinated by the fact that Madhatter can sit on his roof and watch people go by. There's not much traffic on our roof, apart from the odd pigeon.

Love sitting in the garden after work, warm breezes on my face instead of an icy blast, with the gentle chink of ice in a glass of something alcoholic.

Did wonder what Madhatter was doing on his roof .. send us piccie Hatter, then we can understand a little more .. have visions of ladder from pavement to gutter, you with your climbing boots on, hanging on a chimney for dear life, possibly with fiddle in yer hand. :D

Would do the same as Pendy here, 'cept raining tonight and had to put my fire back on :( Would prefer to walk to a decent pub to sit out in their beer garden, if anybody would accompany me .. open to offers? however, Clayton bereft of a setting which befits the ambience I prefer.

Madhatter 20-06-2006 20:24

Re: British summertime

Your visions aren't that far off, have you ever seen weekend at bernies, where they sunbath on the roof? I might take a pic tomorrow
I would offer kate, but I'm 2 hours away.
There's a nice pub down the cut here, with a garden on the canal bank.

Re: British summertime

Well i hope its better than today,,,Its been more like November here

Madhatter 20-06-2006 22:46

Re: British summertime

It's a block of flats two wide by three high. there's a block of 3 shops with houses on to the right, and a block four wide by three high the other, I decorate the lot at christmas with lights, along with the pub and barn over the road, so heights are nothing to me.

yes gayle summer solstice, mid summer, this calendar is wrong and I didn't think it through.

I'll remind you in november when it's not 22c its 5c granny claret

Tee hee, did just the same thing this morning Margaret, got out summer outfit last night, looked at temperature gauge this morning plus peek out off window, decided on winter pin-stripe suit.

One thing about us British women, we are extremely adept at last minute adaptabilities to change .. that's what makes us the best. :Banane23:

Attachment 6329 --- Come on British women.. :) 'course not a slur on the chauvenistic footie flag of course.. would I ?

Wasn't exactly long nor the brightest daylight in fact miserable grey day in weather terms!!! How long is this wind gonna last blaming Gale force up here:(

Madhatter 22-06-2006 02:21

Re: British summertime

Windy down here too, was a bit brighter this morning then went dull, and windy and rainy. I blame mel, she sent it down here to me.

I can remember sitting out front of a restuarant opposite houses of parliament, same bank, but it was over looking the thames, over the road from where all the pleasure cruises dock, I must only have been 8, if that, can remember it like it was yesterday. we sat at a table out the front on the pavement, and had a meal, blazing sunshine. Place is long gone now, and I don't know anywhere in london you can do that now at a reasonable price.

Re: British summertime

British Summertime - Now there's an oxymoron. My wife and I were in England the last two weeks of May and the weather was bloody awful. It rained most days, it blew gales, it was cold and we even had a tornado in Hesketh Bank where we were staying with my eldest son. Of course, everyone delights in telling us that the week before we arrived was beautiful and that since we returned home on the 31st May, the sun has never stopped shining. Oh well how wonderful!!

Madhatter 22-06-2006 12:11

Re: British summertime

Really? i'd like to know how? Saturday was nice, saturday before was nice but its been windy in the week, and rained, it's been on and off since you went back.

Margaret Pilkington 22-06-2006 13:00

Re: British summertime

Yes we had our Oz visitors over here then...they had two lovely weeks and then two cr*p weeks...the week before they flew back was so-so...but as soon as they had gone the sun was cracking the flags....two weeks of that and it has gone again.
Like Kate I got my winter coat out today.....put the sleeveless dress back into mothballs...I didn't suit it anyway...I've got arms that a Russian Shot putter would be proud of!

Madhatter 22-06-2006 13:05

Re: British summertime

Grabbed me duvet last night it was that cold here. Got no one to keep me warm, it's gonna be wierd in winter on my own.

Margaret Pilkington 22-06-2006 13:07

Re: British summertime

I put a thin quilted throw on the bed whilst it was hot and muggy......I asked hubby last night if he wanted the quilt back on...he said 'no......I'll snuggle up to you...that'll keep me warm'.

Better get a nice big teddy bear then. At least it wont nick the duvet on those cold nights. :p:D

accymel 23-06-2006 20:32

Re: British summertime

..............or invest in an electric blanket :)

Madhatter 23-06-2006 22:31

Re: British summertime

I can't cuddle an electric blanket.
Teddy wins.
Doesn't nag, knick the duvet, snore, talk in it's sleep, say it loves tom cruise.
Down side is, it's never in the mood, I'm not a furvurt anyway so it's happy, and it never brings me a nice cup of tea in the morning :(

Madhatter 23-06-2006 22:32

Re: British summertime

Today was nice, It's killed my bedding plant though, I thought the rain would be enough but obviously not.
