If HBC could get their collective act together it would be possible to organise quite a prestigious art competition, a bit like the John Moores Exhibition or the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, with generous prizes paid for out of entry fees it could attract quite a lot of attention for the town. Think of the press hoo-haa there is when the shortlist for the Turner Prize is announced.

There is also the possibility of doing the same thing with music, dance, drama and writing. If the town got a reputation for supporting the arts you could virtually guarantee an increase in property prices for everyone as well as some pretty prestigious retail outlets for the town centre.

But HBC won't do anything like that because they are small minded people who cannot think any further than the next council tax increase.
