It's not got up here yet, I will be sparking up the barbi in about half an hours time so I expect something to happen. I was in Lancaster most of the afternoon and I can tell you it was bloody uncomfortable. For the first time ever I went out in a t shirt.

You could make a small offering and send up a prayer or incantation for it to grow back but you would need to stand naked in front of your tree at four in the morning for at least half an hour repeating your incantation with an earnest expression on your face. :o Or you could pay me two hundred quid to come and do it for you.:D Thunder over Accy from Green Howarth or better still from the coppice is a fantastic sight. It really is one of those things I miss. I hope someone managed to get a couple of decent shots. If you go back up girls stay in the car don’t take chances. :) |
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........

Its Mother was very attentive standing over it. I stood in the rain and chaos that afternoon comforting the mother, unable to leave it, my mother had to walk down Willows Lane to where Farmer Nelson lived, he came and took the calf away; I was gutted by the experience, but also enlightened to my mothers caring side and understanding that day, she later battered me for standing in a thunder storm but she took the time to wait until I had got over the death of the calf. |
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
the skatepark in great harwood was struck by lightening and unfortunately some garages close by too!! The skatepark was burnt to a cinder along with the garages. My son went up to have a look and there was no mention of anyone being hurt and no ambulances around although he did say their was a hamster cage visable in one of the sheds or whatever they were, hope there was no hamster!!!!!!!
As it started I was with a friend up at the houghton arms having lunch outside. We had finished eating when we heard the rumblings, just finishing our drinks when the first little drops of rain started, left and had just got back in the car when the heavens opened. We aquaplaned our way back on the M65 (great fun :D ) but I was surprised at how many people had pulled over onto the hardshoulder because of the rain. In fact I think there were more cars on hardshoulder than were driving!!!! |

Awww Doug that is so sad with the calf :( The gee gee's were out up Green Howarth but didn't seem to phased by any of it.
I don't know about any of you affected by the weather, but my head is still banging! :( |
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
Rain-storm? Oh boy!
I was invited to an early evening party, 2 miles away. I set off at 5.15. At 5.18 the heavens opened and I could barely see to drive. I arrived outside my friends' drive, which is in a hollow, and I couldn't get out of the car as it was raining so hard and thundering and lightning like mad. The water was soon nearly up to the top of my car's wheels and the rain was showing no sign of stopping so I thought I'd go home until it stopped, rather than sit there for God knew how long. The drive back was a nightmare, everywhere was flooded, and my own road, which is a slight hill, looked like a river. I had to sit on my own drive for nearly 10 minutes as I would have been soaked just getting into the house. When I did get in, my patio was under about 5" of water and I had a moat round my kitchen door. I eventually got to the party at 6.45, by which time the sun was out again and everywhere was drying out. I've seen rain like that in Malta, once, but I can't ever remember seeing it in this country before, not to the extent of flooding all the roads in less than 10 minutes. As I'm about 40 miles from Accrington it looks like the storm covered a big area. |
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
There has been nothing here at all,i love a good storm.. Its just been sun all day.....
|
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
The most memorable storm I saw happened about fifteen years ago.
We'd spent a fantastic day water ski-ing on Windermere. Hot, blue skies, perfect. We were going on holiday soon afterwards so towed the boat back to Ossy. It was sunny all the way down the M6, then suddenly the sky went black as we got to the Tickled Trout turn off near Preston. Then it absloutely bucketed it down. A real torrential downpour. By the time we got on the dual carriageway from the Moat House to Brownhill the roads were three feet deep in water. When we slowly descended down to the Brownhill round-about the boat started to float in the water. We got some funny looks but at least made a few people laugh. It was even photographed and was in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph. Glad to eventually get back home we were amazed to find the storm hadn't even hit Oswaldtwistle and not a drop of rain had fell. |
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
It’s still bloody hot up here, there’s no air around and the fan isn’t helping all that much. No sign of rain, thunder or lightening. It's that still outside I can hear seagulls farting a mile away.

Love a good storm and the one yesterday was good.
Hope we have another one soon as I'm sat in the office with the window which is on the shady side open wide, a fan keeping the air moving and I'm still blinking roasting. Give us another storm please mother nature, it's stifling. |
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
Did anyone notice that when the thunderstorm started yesterday that their broadband connection was playing up until about 9:00pm when it sorted itself out.
My exchange is Great Harwood, can this have some bearing on the difficulty? |
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
Woah, when there's thunder and lightning about I always disconnect following a friends experience of having his motherboard fried in similar circumstances.

Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
I don’t know what all the fuss is about, about a bit of lukewarm weather. This is hot and humid? Try Singapore during the monsoon season.
When I was at HMS Jufair the naval base in Bahrain back in the late 60’s we played cricket in temperatures of well over 120 F in the sun. In fact the highest recorded temperature on top of the airport control tower – the RAF one not the civilian one – was 149 F and we were playing cricket that afternoon. Great for spin bowling – not so great for the speed merchants though. Get yourselves over to the Middle East. 100 + F in the shade and out in the sun, well it is so hot that you don’t sweat. Well you do actually but as soon as the moisture appears it evaporates. But once you get out of the sun you are instantly wet through and I mean instantly. Now that is hot! |
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
I was in 45'C in Saudi Arabia but at least it was dry heat. Not so good at night, though, when the temp only fell to 35 and the AC didn't seem to make much difference. :D

Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
We were up at Heysham yesterday afternoon sorting out our caravan in preparation for the school hols. It started to look gloomy overhead as we were thinking of heading back (had to get back in time for Dr. Who you know!) and on the way back down the M6 I saw lightening shoot acros the sky - then Busman saw one which hit the ground but all the way back we never encountered any rain.
When we got back here the ground was wet so it obviously had rained but it must have gone ahead of us because it had stopped raining by the time we got here. And yes, we were just in time for Dr. Who!:) |
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
Our village made it on to the BBC News last night, so I'm told. A friend of mine who lives 3 miles away said they only got a sprinkling of rain while we were being flooded.
Today I had to sweep up all the debris the water left behind in my garden. Not the best of jobs in the present temperature. |
Re: Thunder Rolling In..........

Re: Thunder Rolling In..........
