Diodes?

Where can you buy diodes nowadays? god I miss Tandy at times

Re: Diodes?

Diodes?, There is an electronics shop in Burnley on Standish Street, or a bit further away, Victor Wright Electronics on The Rock in Bury, and of course if you fancy mail order there is always the Maplin catalogue.

Re: Diodes?

What are diodes? (Sorry but you learn nothing unless you ask)

Ernie 04-07-2006 16:50

Re: Diodes?

Well Tinks a diode is a component on a circuit board that allows electricity to flow through it one way but not the other, like a one way valve in a water pipe. They are usually used in hi-fi equipment and radio and television and they come in various sizes dependant on what they are being used for, the larger ones are normally used in rectifiers and the smaller ones are used in low current devices. (A rectifier converts A/C alternating current to D/C direct current).

CPC at preston
http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/home/homepage.jsp
crap for computers but I'm sure they can manage diodes. They've got a public counter at the wharehouse in preston though.
Maplins are slowly taking tandy's place. They open more out of town shops each year. I noticed yesterday that they've opened a new one in stockport.

Re: Diodes?

There is a Maplin in Preston but CPC is easier to get to. Only 2 mins from M6 Junction 31A just past Asda. It is not a public counter it is a trade counter but they will serve anyone. Its very annoying for us account customers to have to wait while some bloke ask if they have such a thing while waving it at the person serving

Madhatter 04-07-2006 20:46

Re: Diodes?

Ye ok, it says it says trade counter on the catalogue(I get my catalogue free, but if you don't spend enough in a year you have to pay), but they serve everyone without question, it's like argos with catalogues on a counter.
Yes It can be annoying, they take long enough to serve as it is, it does my head in neil. And it doesn't matter what I seem to do I can't get this damn computer sorted and my account credited. All I want is a working pc.

Re: Diodes?

I used to get my components from pv tubes accy but they have gone now… Pity .

Have you got the diode type number? I have a draw full. It may cost you more for package and postage than what it would cost for the component and what’s it out of?
