Scrap Car

Gotta' get rid of son's old car, which he miserably failed to sell.

Now flat tyres, cobwebs, bird/bat dirt and general decay. 'Tis parked down drive and permission by son to get it taken away.

Ford Fiesta Ghia M registered if anyone needs a part that is still in one piece.

Presume Hyndburn have a service or any other ideas ? Am not prepared to pay a penny towards it being removed by the way. Half a tank of petrol still there, but don't fancy sucking up through the tube to get it flowing. Yuk.

Re: Scrap Car

Sorry kate sucking tubes isn't my speciality. I doubt very much that they'll take it for free. Best you can do is say it's been dumped by your son, then he'll get billed.

Re: Scrap Car

Scrap yards will take it away but think even they might charge.

Re: Scrap Car

Have a look in the back of the observer. I know there are some adverts in Rossendale Free Press for scrap cars wanted.

Re: Scrap Car

thought they paid you for scrap cars as they have to buy the ownership and send paperwork to DVLA

Madhatter 04-07-2006 23:30

Re: Scrap Car

yer, not now bert, that stopped over ten years ago. You have to pay them unless its got parts worth having, then they'll do you a favour and take it for free.

Re: Scrap Car

Strip out what might be useful and flog it then mash whats left. You might pay to have it removed but could still have money over.

Re: Scrap Car

I've gone round closing the windows, left the door open, gone on the landing to the cupboard, and then gone down to the van to go work, wasn't until I started the engine that I had this doubt about what I was doing. thought something doesn't feel right, why do I think I didn't lock the door when I'm sure I did. Do I check or trust myself.
Lucky I went back.
I'm a bit more careful theses days.

Re: Scrap Car

Well, the 'thing' is still there, after loads of helpful advice from this thread !! Sorry.

HBC have a sort of amnesty to tackle the problem ... think more aimed at cars parked on road though, and will take away free of charge until end of October. Son,at last, texted me to say had actually found log book !!

Coincidentally, someone swinging on bell at noon .. me not dressed and dripping nose .. not feeling at me best .. young Irish guy stood there with two colleagues in white van parked outside. Wants to know how much I want for said Fiesta ? Explains situation ... "£ 50" says I ... "not worth that" says he .. "will take away today, and will call back for logbook" Course I have to explain have to contact off-spring to see what is best. He will call back later in the week !!

Do I :-

1) Tell son to fill in log book to HBC and we, as council tax payers, get some sort of benefit from scrap car.

2) Get Irish 'gentlemen' down to £30 and let them take it away.

3) Believe in my instincts and think that some day next week the car is going to disappear

Couldn't really care less to be honest, just want the thing off me drive, but feel a little insecure just now.

Get Irishmen to speak to your son on the phone, let him negotiate. You have done enough.

Soda crystals. Either sprinkled on before it next rains, or diluted in water and swilled on.

Does that mean I'll get two kisses at the next meet now?:)
