Bedside Table
OK .. bored and sticky.
What you got on your bedside table, that way we can tell what sort of person you might be. No cheating .. go and look. I'll start: Lamp, radio clock repeater alarm, reading glasses, glass of water, ashtray, fags and lighter, HRT tablets, regenerating night cream, Saturday's Daily Mail. Conclusion: Over 50, no fear of fire, HRT/cream .. ever hopeful of keeping up the hormones and wrinkles disappearing, fading eyesight, slow reader, reluctant to get up in the morning .. dehydration from overload of wine .. not a good picture, eh? You next. |
Re: Bedside Table
Packet of Polo mints, phone, mobile phone, alarm clock.
I don't know if you can tell my personality from that, Probably someone who doesn't like to be late for work, likes to keep in touch and suffers from indigestion. |
Re: Bedside Table

I have a RAM. :p And he’s a big sod, actually he’s a door stop I got as a present but I just love him to bits, you might have seen him if you’ve been around Dobbies in the last twelve months. :)
I also have a TV and DVD remotes and a stack of books. Spike Milligan, Tom Sharp and Terry Pratchett. :) That’s it really……………Now if you'd ask about what’s on the computer desk? |

Re: Bedside Table
A simpsons light thing, 3 empty glasses, a packet of 'dark' fox sweets, a pair of glasses, half a packet of juiCY FRuit chewing gum, a ice lolly stick, Ubuntu Linux CD (:D), a stick of RAM (512mb i think!), a plate, some old medicene, straighteners, unopened redbull, a wireless card, and a bunch of cd's with no labels on them, but I know they all have something on them.
The tables only about 0.5m x 0.5m too. :D Conclusion? Messy. |
Re: Bedside Table
I've only got a tiny table too because I know how messy I am - so the smaller the surfaces the less mess.
Radio alarm clock, notepad and pen - and that's it! Guess all that tells about me is that I like to get up on time and I need some way of noting down those middle of the night ideas that I have. |
Re: Bedside Table
The usual stuff - reading glasses, watch, keys, a book (a western by Louis L'Amour), personal CD player, CDs...but also present are the same two Accrington Corporation buses that Doug has!
You can take the boy out of Accy etc etc... |

No alarm clock, I have a very effective alarm clock and he is called Monty...wakes me up at 5am in summer.....I get a lie in in winter until 6am. Monty is my big Main Coon cat...for those not in the know. |
Re: Bedside Table
Don't have a bedside table in London, I use the top of a dresser - and there are far too many things to list - a small selection - about 10 books, one fan, one lamp, assorted pots of goo (ever hopeful!), water glass (the 2 litre bottle sits on the floor), make-up bag with various medications, mirror, teddy bear (belonged to my ma-in-law and I wouldn't want him to be lonely), two large plastic boxes containing spare clothes, several other boxes with God knows what ...... obviously some sort of nutter.
In Ossy - lamp, book, Ventolin, glass of water, pot of face cream, tissues. Conclusion - thirsty insomniac asthmatic, ever hopeful, with a snifffle. |
Re: Bedside Table
Alarm clock, Fags, Lighter, Ashtray, Book, Specs, a couple of pens, small change and the contents of my trouser pockets. Now if you were to have asked what I keep under it, that would probably take over a week to catalogue.

Re: Bedside Table
I have two bedside tables, well two bedside cabinets actually that happen to have a tabletop. Both cabinets are empty, I think. I haven’t looked for years. One drawer contains a spare bulb for the bedside lamp. The other is empty now because I have taken the one million quid out of it and taped the money behind my desk.
The left hand cabinet/table has a clock radio and dust. I always sleep on my right side so on the rare occasion that it is used to wake me at some ungodly hour I have to turn over to turn it off. Once I move and my eyes open the brain kicks in and sleep becomes impossible - so I get up. It works for me. On the right hand table/cabinet is a unique only one of its kind bedside lamp and a torch, ex navy of course. Donkeys years ago when I were foreman at Dynamo Electric in Blackburn our ‘experimental’ department made the lamp that would double as emergency lighting in the event of a power failure. I rescued it from the skip when Dynamo closed down and we all got made redundant. The base, about 8 inches in diameter and about 5 inches high, holds the re-chargeable batteries and electronics. The stem holds 2 fluorescent tubes surrounded by a diffuser and these light up when the power fails or the plug is pulled. There is a push button switch to select one or both tubes to be lit. There is a second push button switch that controls the normal light. On top of the stem is a normal light fitting but I use a 25w switchboard bulb with a spare in the drawer. It is all topped with a normal lampshade and dust of course. At my age a bed is for sleeping in so other accoutrements are surplus to requirements. Even if I am feeling not so clever I still manage to get up and flop into my reclining rocking chair. |
Re: Bedside Table
god knows why they don't make them jambutty, I think we'd all have one, especially pensioners. Do they think that the price would put people off.
Another idea I had was a pull cord dimmer for the bathroom, the amount of people that asked me to fit dimmers in bathrooms I couldn't understand why no one had. They have only just started making it. Perhaps I should have patented it when I first thought of it. |
Re: Bedside Table
no bedside table here ...but i do keep my mobile phone and my glasses under the bed at night ;)
|
Re: Bedside Table
when I go sleep there'a another three mobiles go on it and a cup o tea
|
Re: Bedside Table

In the middle are pictures still waiting to go on the wall, an ashtray, note book, magazine and a lighter. The bottom containes books. |
Re: Bedside Table
Well, this is definitely eye-opening. Personality, lifestyle all in one little space, eh ?
Worried about some of ya' though.. observations so far:- Ernie: disappointed those polo mints only used for indigestion, thought you might expect company any time and being prepared, or other uses.. tee hee. Madhatter: ... THREE money boxes, 5 small teddies !! FOUR mobiles, why am I not surprised . where's ya' pony tail clips though, oh, yes, let yer' hair down at night I bet. Spuggie: Russian Caramels ?? Obviously a man of selective taste, but what's wrong with the Devon variety ? Doug: Heard about men and Rams. Cyfr: Aaaaw Simpson lamp, eh ? Showing yer' age kid. Red Bull, not opened yet. Between boy and man. Gayle: So perfect. Wynonie: Frustrated busdriver ... talk to Busman Mez: Anti-hystamine ? You got bed mites ? Mummiboo: Crystal Angel .. some one to watch over you. Jeanette: better get you into therapy quick ..bacca' ? finishing school would help too. Margaret: Was excited when ya' mentioned Monty, then let me down, just a cat. Pendy: Organised chaos. Love your affiliation with stuffed toys though .. A-B: Yes, would LOVE to know what is under yer' bed. Jambutty: Only you could have such a lamp. Anne: Now Mick is on the mend, get him to hang up those pictures for you. Can't you just picture all this about the people who have replied and don't you just love it. |
Re: Bedside Table

Re: Bedside Table
I've got 2 small chests of drawers, one at each side of my bed. The top of one contains a phone, my electric toothbrush in its charger, a spare table-lamp (not plugged in as I have wall-lights) and 6 framed family photos. The other has a radio-alarm, my current bed-time book, a large bottle of Vaseline Intensive Care and a glass of fruit juice. I also have a large chest of drawers against the wall to the left of my bed and it has more books (about 12), deodorants, hair-gel spray, sun-cream, hair brush, mirror, box of tissues, jewellery box containing only sea-shells, photo of my late husband, face creams, an assortment of hair-bands belonging to my granddaughter and a very wobbly blue pot made by my son, at school, when he was 12 (29 years ago).

Re: Bedside Table
After reading this thread, I ran upstairs to see exactly what I have on my bedside cabinet - - -
One radio alarm, One fancy light, (now it goes downhill!) A ticket to see "Alice in Wonderland" at the Burnley theatre for July 1st! (I DID go, I think) A strange key that will unlock nothing that I am aware of! A card quoting HEB13:1-2 Starting, Let sisterly love continue be ye not forgetful to entertain strangers - - etc etc I will blame one of my daughters for that! A huge stapler (gotta be Willows!) - - and a dried up bottle of Gaviston (must get some more:p ) A tube of all purpose glue, A bluetooth earpiece that has been dead for the past 6 months - - and a tiny plastic teddy that my youngest gave to me a couple of years back to keep me safe while driving, Its so small, I keep it there so I don't lose it! Now, after clearing the junk, I will have to go and clean the top as it is FILTHY!!! |

Re: Bedside Table
Willow will not escape despite being 50 miles away and having no access to a computer!!!!
O.M.G. Where do I start??13 containers to paint face, beautify, corrupt the natural beauty that she has!!! 2 Books, "King Arthurs Last Battle," and "The Fall of Jerusalem" A Lighter (she doesn't smoke??) Scissors (Industrial size!) Nail File, (one of those industrial ones, about 8 inches long) Ear studs One button ??????? A wierd contraption that fits two fingers and is magnetic (don't ask me, ask Willow when (if) she eventually returns:confused: ) A gold bracelet (who would think of looking there for jewellry!) - - - and millions of hair bands (that she never uses!) |
Re: Bedside Table
Mine is really boring. A lamp, phone, a travel alarm and an ashtray. Sometimes my mobile ends up there should I need to get up early (the clock is more travel than alarm) and I usually have a book.
My specs would be there but more often than not, I fall asleep reading and they tend to share my bed! Lots of dust too! |
Re: Bedside Table
Mine - a letter from the hospital telling me to ring them before 1.30pm - which i have done its just its still there for safe keeping! A packet of tissues because i've just chucked the box away, an ashtray, a litre bottle of water half full, receipts from tesco which ive just rooted out my jeans pocket, a pen, a book, and when i go to bed my fags, a lighter, mobile phone and glasses.
My alarm clock is on my bookshelf on the other side of my bedroom - simple reason i have to get up then to turn it off otherwise i'd never get out of my bed! A question though for you - have you noticed the smokers all have a packet of fags, ashtray and lighter on their bedside cabinet/table? How many times have we been told not to smoke in bed! |
Re: Bedside Table
have you noticed that me and willow both have lighters but don't smoke.
|
Re: Bedside Table
i havent got one, but cannot believe nobody admitted to FALSE TEETH.:D

Re: Bedside Table
Just lucky I guess. I was in the right place at the right time katex.
Sadly I’ve never had a power failure at night so the lamp’s true purpose has never been used. And now the re-chargeable batteries have reached the end of their life and don’t charge up, so the lamp doesn’t have a ‘real’ purpose any more. It still makes a good bedside lamp though. I really must galvanise myself and see about repairing it. |
Re: Bedside Table
You could have one at the top of the stairs or designed as a wall light and flex like ikea do their wall lights. I think all stairs should have an emergency light especially if people have a stair lift. Imagine a power cut when on their own late at night and they're stuck halfway up the stairs. Actually thinking about it the stair lift should have a light built in.

Re: Bedside Table
Mobile phone, layer of dust,8 old Viz comics,an empty wineglass,a clock that is way too loud and a tubigrip. The "other " side as used by the fella has a lamp,an empty wineglass,an aerosol of Arrid XXX and a pile of nonsense books like Midge Ure's autobiography! Torrid stuff eh readers? I do however have a naughty drawer that is somewhat more exciting!:D
|
Re: Bedside Table
Well, Lindsay....don't tell us you have a naughty drawer and then not tell us what you have in it!........let me guess, a whip....oh yeah and the nice wooden top that goes with it....some chalk to put pretty patterns on the top.......breath mints in case you should fancy to kiss someone and not have been up to clean your teeth (no-one wants to be kissed with 'zackly' breath)........and my guesses run out there.

Forget the table-top, what about the bedside drawer? I had a look in mine (the top one that doesn't contain underwear etc.) and making an inventory is a bit embarrassing. :(
My prescription medications 5 tubes and 2 pots of face creams Nail file Foot file Packet of corn plasters 2 tubes of Ibulieve, half full, 1 without a lid Receipt for vet's bill, dated 2003 Optician's prescription from 1999 A to Z of Merseyside, 25 years old Spare light-bulb for wall lights 3 large torch batteries 2 pencils Horrible orange-coloured nail polish (now solid) 2 unidentified yale keys 4 safety pins (1 rusty) Assortment of little coloured plastic rings for electric toothbrush Small Stanley knife (?) 3 brass screws Photograph of long-deceased rabbit in garden (out of focus) I really must get round to sorting it all out. :D |
