Broaday - again!

I don't know. It must just be me. But everytime I walk down broadway I shake my head in disbelief. The councils spent all that money trying to make it nice and the average chav on the street just tries to cover it with as much litter and crap as they can. I know the council are trying to keep the litter to a minimum but PLEASE can they get a jet washer on the paving stones before they disappear under all the black stains that are rapidly appearing.
I must be getting old, Accy seemed alright once. Before it became a centre for DSS relocations, bringing with them drug problems, chav kids etc.

AH well that will be the over spill from blackburn won't it.
Bad choice of material for keeping clean, those light coloured polished blocks.

I dont know why they got rid of the old market. I used to love having a good look round the market stalls. Now there's about 20 from what used to be 200. =[

Thats probably why they got rid of it. There are more than 20 stalls there though outside. Bet there's about a hundred, but nobody wants them.
It's no consolation to you lot but it's the same almost everywhere.

You have to admit, the old market was better though?

I remember the meat van which used to park next to Scope on the corner.. which is now an empty shop. And walking down the ramp, taking a short-cut to Lloyds Pharmacy. Passing the pet shop on the way.

And which is now Shoe Zone, a row of shops, including fish markets etc.

Ohhh the good days =[

Re: Broaday - again!

ye it is chav and it's fantastic if it's busy, but terrible if it's not.
I've been to the markets down london, they are amazing, I've been to the largest permanent market too at ingoldmells, and to our famous bank holiday market at polesworth, people travel from all over the uk to get to that one.
I think, that because markets are out of fashion, unless you've managed to keep a good one going well throught the hard times then you've got no chance. You've go a nice market hall, problem is it's now isolated from the main street down an alley. The arndale should have adjoined that, like the market is under the shopping centre in stoke. Your fighting a losing battle against blackburn burnley and bury and I don't think you'll ever catch up now. Thats down to your council. you've got poor shops (not my opinion) no outdoor market but a good indoor market.
What Accrington needs is a forum, and a town manager like we're setting up here. Councils can't be trusted to promote a town or do whats best to promote it, it needs people that are actually involved in the town centre to get involved.
Then you can all get involved too if you want, put ideas forward for things, go for grants without the council, but with the councils backing. Shop keepers need to get involved.
You all seem to lack ideas, I put a thread up, ideas to inspire the world, but no posts, this is what I meant http://www.coventryinspires.co.uk/ideas/index.htm.
