I would repectfully suggest that prior to attending this institution, you at least refer to it by it's correct title - The University of Central Lancashire.

There is no need to apologise for such a simplistic error.

By the way, congrats on your result.

Aye, Dancing rodents to all of you!!! (Conga rats! :D)

There will always be another resit/career/ etc. Remember its not a race through life, take your time and choose what you really want. TBH I wish I'd taken a year out between college and Uni to have a break from the constant stream of education that you have been subjected to for the last 15 years or so.

Also don't feel so hung up about what you actually want to do for a living, some of the most interesting people I know still haven't a clue. I always feel that you are pushed into making choices with all this pressure about the rest of your life depending on it when to be brutally honest it doesn't. Soemtimes to fail makes you evaluate what you really want to do rather than what you think you should be doing. Life has a funny way of turning out better than you could have hoped for.

Entwisi you are SO right........Well done JT.
You Never EVER pick over the bones of a success the way you do a failure.
Failures are one of the greatest learning curves in life.......not that you would want too many of them though.

Whats that saying,

Maths AS: D
Politics AS: C
Computing Alevel: C
ICT Alevel: C

Woo I expected to fail most of them, i've passed everything and can go again next year. :D

ps. AS are half an alevel (have to carry those on next year)

:D

Just out of interest, where did those of you who have taken A/AS levels this year study? I was under the impression that it is no longer possible to do these courses in Accy. Or am I wrong?

I took mine in St Marys Blackburn, I think you're correct and Accrington do not do A/AS levels..

It's never as bad as it looks, Lea. What did you get? And if you are considering retaking the entire year, then are you considering repeating the same subjects or changing to something different?

Well, I did mine at St Mary's as well....but that was a long time ago. In those days, you could also do A levels at the old Accy Grammar, Accy Girls grammar & Paddock House in Ossy.

I got 3 D's and an E.....and a U in biology because i dropped it as the teacher was a disgrace...there were many complaints made about her/him.
It's a shame because I got A's, B's and C's in my January modules....so so disappointed.....I wanted to do media and film studies....but I couldn't see a career at the end... so choose the sciences and maths route....sigh

Well, Lea...you choose the science subjects - the tough ones. You can either go through them again (show perseverence) or switch to new subjects, in which case you will have a CV presentable to University admission/employers which will show a science background underpinning the subjects you decide to take.

Several of my friends did not do as well as they would have wished with their A levels....one is now a GP, a couple are company directors and another is a senior civil servant...so don't worry to much about it.

Well done to everyone - hope you got the results you wanted if you didnt take a step back and think i can do it and go for the resits. Thats what i did (though it wasnt A & AS levels) and i passed at the second time of asking.

Don't understand AS level, thought they were just a 'mock' type exam after first year to give you a pointer for build up for the final year .. why another 2 years ? Seems crazy you have to work towards these in the first year, hard enough as it is. Why go back ? Somebody explain please.

John_Timmins 17-08-2006 22:16

Re: A Level Results Day!!!!

basically alevels now consisit of two main sets of results, the first years reaults are your a-s levels and then the 2nd year is A2 which is the final alevel,

my niece first got told by her mom that she wudnt b goin to uni as she cudnt afford it so she didnt apply anywhere - she came out with two a's and 1 b and her mom's changed her mind now

only thing is all the good places at uni have gone so she's left wiht courses that she really didnt think she wud b doing

oh well - she was interested in doin marketing at man uni but the course places are full - do u think that closer to the time there will b people dropping out and be spaces for her to get in?

entwisi 18-08-2006 06:47

Re: A Level Results Day!!!!

Mani, at worst tell her to take a year out, get some work experience and a few savings behind her. Then when she goes to Uni she will have a better understandin of teh type of crappy jobs there are and she will want to work that extra bit so she doesn't have to go back to one! :D

Tell her to get onto ucas and I believe 'The Telegraph' have teh full UCAS clearing list so she may be able to find somewhere that has places

Re: A Level Results Day!!!!

Congratulations to everyone on your results. Don't worry if you didn't get the results that you wanted, you can always repeat courses now and there are loads more opportunities than there used to be.

I have just finished a degree at UCLAN (no results until October). I have never done an A-level in my life. I got 8 O-levels but had basically had enough of full time education when I left school, so I never went to college. I dossed for 2 years getting experience in different jobs then went to nursing school. I have done my degree part time whilst working full time. I have to admit that it was hard work trying to attend lectures, get assignments in on time and commuting to and from UCLAN in my time off, but it is manageable.

There is more than one way to achieve your goals, for those of you who cannot get on the course you want this year, take a year out, get a job and get some money behind you (uni is a dear do). For those who didn't get the results you need, repeat your course....at least you have that option these days. Well done everyone..:D
